Utility of JH7 for PAF

Is it still being produced. Last I checked its production was stopped in 2016 in China and the fighter was to be replaced by J-16.

I think some people need to get off the bandwagon of JH7 now! Its not making its way into PAF period.
I opened this thread because I got fed up of explaining this same thing to people again and again since the last 10 yrs. I understand the need of a twin jet for naval ops and longer on station stay but asking people to do deep interdiction and bombing mission is a suicidal plan. But hey as long as I am in my bed /or living room conjecturing about some sorry sod who is going to risk his life doing a mission with a less than 10% chance of success and every likely hood he will be blown off the skies delivering a few big crackers to soil a few more dhotis, what does it matter!

It was a good idea to make a separate thread as this discussion on JH-7 was ruining other threads.

Mirages are getting old rather very old. JF-17 vs JH7 , the difference lies in hardpoints, twin engines and if I am not wrong combat radius etc

JH-7 can not survive Su-30MKIs as they also have very good range and weapons to conduct ops on sea, PAF will had to deploy escorts to guard JH-7s, and comparing JH-7 with P-3 is like comparing Apples with Oranges.

Need a deep strike twin engine jet. JF-17 cannot do everything. Could possibly look into J-11. It's based off the SU-27 and will add another dimension to the PAF.

PN had rejected JH-7s and they wanted J-11s but those are not available, but Pakistan should try find out a way to get J-1x or Su-35 for PN support role.

Precisely my point. All the bells and whistles are upgrades to get rid of older platforms.

Many here on PDF don't understand that, there was a reason that PN and PAF both rejected it.

There have been JH-7's available for quite sometime, but PAF has not shown any interest in them.

Now IF PN were to get creative, and go for a dedicated air arm, and start out with 2 dedicated sqdns of JH-7, CNS or COAS, could most probably get funding from KSA or UAE.

PN had evaluated it and rejected it, they also evaluated J-11 after which they showed interest in those.

PAF has evaluated JH-7's and were not impressed with them. Dont you think that buying more used mirages would be better keeping in mind existing facilities.

What I came to know is that Mirage being so old is still better in many areas as compared to JH-7s also they are maintenance nightmares.

The game to push every country that can deliver some weapon system. Presently PAF is after the F-16's from USA. From China PAF is after the J-20 which unfortunately the Chinese are not offering but they have offered J-10's and J-11D's with some really good specifications.

Are you sure about J-11Ds? I think J-16 is what PAF and PN now want from China.

The JH7 production line is closed and in future considering circumstances PAF shall rely on multi role platforms so we should try to induct a 5th Gen multi role jet though off the shelf till Azm is available. Meanwhile on other hand JF17 block 3 should be armed with latest tech to tackle enemy in air to air combat.
Pakistan ground based air defense should also be revamped with Hq9 variant, at least few batteries to cover our major cities/ports along with medium to short range SAMs like HQ16 and HQ7.

Salaam

I'm far from an expert but, imho, I think the only reason Pakistan may purchase aircraft that it has rejected previously would be if the armed forces expect an imminent attack or plan to make a move with regards to the Kashmir problem.

In such situations I would expect Pakistan to try and get any reasonable weapon systems it can get its hands on.

In fact, if Pakistan were to make such a purchase I'd expect it to remain secret until delivery and preparations are fully made.

All options have to be weighed against the potential requirements we forsee in any given time frame. An option that matures in five years will not be too helpful for us in a war that happens in 2 years, no matter how much superior it is to the other one that will mature in time for war.

I don't really know what sort planning the planners are doing. It may be that the requirements have changed given the change in the situation after the Indian move in Kashmir and with it was previously deemed unfeasible has become feasible and visa versa.

to the JH7 party, what are your thoughts on the Panavia Tornado? more modern and newly retired. surely better in performance than JH7!

Maintenance hog and expense. Also no country besides Saudi Arabia will be flying it so imagine the costs of spares. No thank you

@MastanKhan I would not be talking about intelligence if I were you.

Lay off @araz because he talks more sense than you. He has shared some valid points and instead of addressing them, you are attacking him personally.

What is the TWR of WS-9? What is the TWR of JH-7? It is underpowered for sure. Early copies of Spey engine did have problems and some might still be there. What is wrong with saying this much?

Hi,

Thrust to weight ratio my----. Do you have any clue what it is---what it does---does it have any substance---just heard a few people talk---you thought that sounded important---so you copied them trying to look important---.

Do you know the thrust to weight ratio of the F14 Tomcat---how about the F15 when fully loaded---or the F16 with full load---or the B52 bomber or the B1---.

Just remember---birds of a feather flock together---fools understand fools---. Hey if you have a liking for Araz---who am I to complain---each to his own---as the farmer kissed the cow---.

JH-7A/B chapter should be closed. We need to work on block 4 and AZM project.

We have been operating/upgrading and maintaining Mirage iii/V for 30 years, I wonder why can’t we build the frame locally?
