I ran into one of @DESERT FIGHTER 's posts regarding this from a while back.
A very interesting point if true. I wonder if more evidence can be gathered. Here is an excerpt from the book that was mentioned with respect to this( DEAD RECKONING Memories of the 1971 Bangladesh War by Sarmila Bose).

What unit was this Karimullah figure a part of? Was it SSG?

Nope, he wasn't from the SSG...the SSG joined the conflict a bit later ...I wonder too how he got an M-16...never saw one in the history or archives on the Pak army ....

In the beginning, there was one commando battalion permanently stationed as part of Easter Command.

Later, BEFORE Op Searchlight, the strength was increased to two commando Battalions, one of them being commanded by Col Z A Khan, the other by Col Suleman. Once Ghazi Company of 2 Commando was ambushed in which Col Suleman attained shahadat, Col Z A Khan took over command of 2 Commando as well, apart from his own 3 Commando.
