'US will hand Afghanistan over to Pak'

Fair enough,

However you cannot deny that the delay in pursuing this project has cooled relations between Delhi and Tehran, India as doing so well with a friendly Afghanistan Government and a warming relationship with Tehran, sadly that has been detrimentally affected by the recent actions of the Indian Administration.

Sure Indian got the Nuclear Deal, but consider the pro's and con's of what you guys have lost out on, cheap energy in a energy starved region, the royalties from the pipeline, greater influence in central Asia.

In my opinion, India got the shorter end of the stick. I would appreciate your input on this.

Not really. What India has got is a better deal in the long run. Here is a Nuke deal where all assets are / will be on Indian soil as against the Gas deal which has / had too many imponderables. Given the situation i n Pak today ( which might get worse), Gas would or can be the softest target to turn the screws on.

Iran is no friends with the Talibs & shall stay that way, with the Obama - Clinton team making overtures to Iran a thaw may come about in a small measure. The wind will change direction.., there will also be another election in Iran sometime.

In any case once Iran achieves its immediate aims in the Nuke field things may change.

For India with Nuke energy in the bag, can gas be far away ? The seller and buyer need each other in equal measure.

First of all US is not in firm control of Afghanistan to be in a position to handover anything to Pakistan.

Secondly Pakistan is not in any position to be handed over Afghanistan. We already have our hands full in dealing with anti state miscreants and frustrated populace in the tribal areas with genuine grievances.

Thirdly and most importantly, the Afghan nation has its pride and cannot be handed over to anyone.

Pakistan has always played a part in Afghanistan and that is a direct consequence of our shared border, shared language, shared history etc.
When the dust settles down i am sure Pakistan will have a much more larger role to play in a new Afghanistan.
For good or for worse we are neighboring countries which of course is not the case with India and Afghanistan.

Regarding the inability to control terrorism, the fight is still on.
Pakistan is suffering from it more than anyone.
To assume that we want to nurture terrorists is absurd.
There is a difference between militant and terrorist and at the time of Pakistan's rosy relationship with Taliban the Taliban were not Terrorists.
What happens down the road is anybody's guess really but there is no other way rather than isolate the terrorists and that means negotiating with all parties who are willing to distance themselves from terrorists.
This process clearly will take a lot of time and effort.
