Not surprising since in 1936, Japan was in full control of the South China Sea. Of course after WWII, Japan signed treaty declaring that it relinquish all control and claim to the SCS, and after which ROC declare its claim to the SCS with the 11 dash line. All before the other claimants of today gain their independence.

America is very good at stirring trouble in far away places and then leave as quickly as possible when it gets too hot.

Worse of all, these places are left in shambles.

There are many examples. The recent ones are Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Ukraine, Armenia, Syria, .....

Let's hope our ASEAN friends don't fall into this madness. Just be close enough to uncle Sam to extract some benefits, but not too close to be manipulated. Keep a distance. The danger signs are when uncle Sam starts sending their "experts" to meddle in your internal affairs.

Why does America do this? If there is tension or uncertainty, their military industrial complexes get to sell more arms which is good for their economy. Also, they get to access bases (e.g. in Philippines and potentially Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam).

It's always a win for US and sh*t to the others. Can't blame them, they are only looking after their interests.

Remember there are no permanent allies or friends, only permanent interests.

By the way, other big countries are doing this too except that they leave some crumbs behind and not just only sh*t.
