US tourist murdered in Andaman island, 7 people arrested

They don't respond well to friendly contact, so how should we bring them to mainstream? Attack a tribe of 40 odd people?
Enter with protective gear,,they have Spears and that kind of stuff only..give them so gifts and stay there long enough that they can trust us ..British tried the same with them but the sentinelis died when taken to civilization..2 of them..so we should immune them too..

I don't see any good coming out of it. They are happy and content living on their tiny island and continuing with their way of life, whats the need of going and interfering.

why bother them?
And the so many posters here have just ignored the story and seen only a man murdered in inidian territory. He died because of his own stupidness and ignoring law of the land. Sentinelese tribe has been declared as an aboriginal tribe, they dont establish contact wiht the rest of civilisation and live in their island, they number around 50. Even previously they have attacked people who have ventured close to their island.
Knowing all this, this man still went to the island just to preach christianity. How dumb was he? Is propagating religion so important?

india is worst place on earth for foreign tourists I think in future no wise man from u.s and europe should visit india they are overrated and in reality lack good environment for tourism
Your iq must be below 50.
Those who go to that island are at a very high risk of getting killed, the people living there have not been contacted by modern civilisation, one of the very few places in the world.

It is Indian governments decision to leave that island alone, it’s a prohibited place for visiting. This guy was breaking the law by entering such a place.

According to local media, Chau was a missionary who wanted to meet the Sentinelese in order to preach Christianity.

What an utter dickhead :hitwall: Its hard to sympathize with such morons.

PORT BLAIR/NEW DELHI:

An American man was killed by a protected tribe in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the police said today. Seven fishermen who took 27-year-old John Allen Chau to North Sentinel Island, where the indigenous Sentinelese people live, have been arrested, the police said.

The Sentinelese, whose population in 2011 was estimated at 40, are known to resist contact with the outside world.

The fishermen told the police that they last saw the American man being attacked with bows and arrows after he landed on the island towards the southern Andamans on November 16. The tribes dragged the American to the beach, they said, adding that moments later as they were sailing away from the island they saw Mr Chau's body half-buried in the sand.

"He tried to reach the Sentinel island on November 14 but could not make it. Two days later he went well prepared. He left the dingy midway and took a canoe all by himself to the island," a source told news agency AFP. "He was attacked by arrows but he continued walking. The fishermen saw the tribals tying a rope around his neck and dragging his body. They were scared and fled but returned next morning to find his body on the sea shore," the source said.

Once they reached Port Blair, the fishermen narrated the incident to a local preacher, Alex, who was a friend of Mr Chau. The local preacher then alerted the dead man's family in the US, who immediately contacted the US embassy in New Delhi for help.

The police in the islands arrested the fishermen and questioned the preacher after the US officials informed them of the incident.

The authorities in the Union Territory have launched helicopter search teams to look for the body. They said the helicopters are unable to land at the island as the Sentinelese are hostile to any attempt at approaching them.

Alex said Mr Chau had been to the Andamans several times in the last few years. The American man was also "a preacher" who apparently told Alex that he was interesting in converting the Sentinelese people, people with direct knowledge of the matter said.

Only people who have high-level access and permission can visit the protected areas as the strategic Andaman and Nicobar Islands is not only home to the protected tribes, but also has a large presence of the defence forces with sensitive installations. Activists say the tribes are at threat from outsiders, who often bribe local authorities to spend a day out with them.
