US to Sell India Submarine-Launched Missiles

Wanting to screw is one thing and actually screwing is another thing. You wanted to screw Russia and played your part. By any means, you poked the bear. :D

Yeah we did them in Afghanistan .. Now the Russian N Pak navy are making port calls.. Russia is supporting Pak steel mills, they are offering us weapons .. And Russia is supporting our bid for SCO. :)

.
You did sell to us, way way way before your new bromance with India. Therefore, by your own definition, you actually maybe a bit effed up........ just saying........ :D

Maybe I'm fucked up, but I'd sell to India before I'd sell to Pakistan any day of the week.:usflag:

??? India and russia also have multiple projects going simultaneously, China is itself calling india onboard to SCO, Indian navy is right now doing joint drill with russian navy

Apart from the facts you and i have stated, i don't get the connection of this to the topic !

The UGM-84 series sub launched Harpoon is an all-weather, sea-skimming, cruise-monitored by radar altimeter, with active radar terminal homing over the horizon anti-ship missile system fitted with a solid-fuel rocket booster and encapsulated in a container to enable submerged launch through a torpedo tube. Its speed is high subsonic, around 850 km/h and range is 140 km. The latest UGM 84L Block II which India is acquiring has a range of 280 km.

The BRAHMOS submarine launched variant cruise missile is a supersonic cruise missile and is the world's fastest cruise missile in operation. It is a two-stage missile with a solid propellant booster engine. The missile travels at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0. unlike the Harpoon which is sub sonic. Its guidance system unlike the Harpoon consists of mid-course guidance by INS Terminal guidance by homing radar seeker. Its operational range is 300 - 500km. (Export variants would be < 300km to comply with the MTCR).

Submarine launched Brahmos

It seems like Brahmos is better.... then why are we buying US made???

Probably because the undersea launch version of the Brahmos will take another 4-5 years to be fully operationalized.

Remember, we have asked for only 12 UGM-84A Harpoons in the interim.

I think that was a full sized missile that can only fit in.a missile sub.
The Harpoon is half the size and can fit in a torpedo tube and thus launched from any sub.

The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to India for UGM-84L Harpoon missiles and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $200 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on July 1, 2014.

The Government of India has requested a possible sale of 12 UGM-84L Harpoon Block II Encapsulated Missiles, 10 UTM-84L Harpoon Encapsulated Training missiles, 2 Encapsulated Harpoon certification training vehicles, containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $200 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to strengthen the U.S.-India strategic relationship and to improve the security of an important partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in South Asia.

This Harpoon missile system will be employed on the Indian Navy’s Shishumar class submarine (Type-209) and will provide enhanced capabilities in defense of critical sea lines of communication. India has already purchased Harpoon missiles for integration on Indian Air Force Jaguar aircraft and Indian Navy P-8I maritime patrol aircraft. India will have no difficulty absorbing these additional missiles into its armed forces.

This proposed sale of Harpoon missiles will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractors will be the Boeing Company in St Louis, Missouri; and Delex Systems Inc., in Vienna, Virginia. In accordance with the Indian Defense Procurement Policy, a contractor may be expected to conclude offset agreements with the Government of India but no offset agreement is currently known to have been proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor personnel to India. However, U.S. Government or contractor personnel in-country visits will be required on a temporary basis for program, technical, and management oversight and support requirements for approximately five years.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.
