Myanmar wants to play China and USA off of each other to get maximum benefits. It doesn't suit the interests of the army generals to become a total western stooge. They are not dumb enough to turn hostile against China opportunistically like Philippines.

Myanmar is a great game between China and USA. China has its levers of influence. So far, USA is just making a lot of noise.

Forget about what China and USA thinks about India's role in Myanmar. It is the high time that GOi should engage in more fruitfully relations with myanmar. Help it developing its economy and infrastructure. Give special tax exemptions to the indian companies that create industries and job apportunity in Myanmar. Start buiding road and rail network it will also help to develop our NE region It will be costly deal now but it will give us future market and stratagic importance

Myanmar is an independent and sovereign country which will develop good relationship with all its neighbors to develop its people and economy. No country should try to monopolize or take advantage of them.

India has its role in the region, perhaps their advice was helpful in the recent positive development, but for USA or the world, it would be foolish to think that India is always providing helpful advice. India's advice about the maritime zone conflict between Bangladesh and Myanmar, was one example where India played a negative role, for which the two neighbors had to go for international arbitration.

China should press Myanmar to complete the road/railway project that will connect Kunming and Chittagong, there is great trade potential for this route for the entire region. Also ASEAN should concentrate to connect Myanmar with good rail/road links.

The land mass of South East Asia, along with North East India, China and Bangladesh has great potential for increasing trade and commerce.
