US to expand embassy in Afghanistan with 500 million dollars

It is not about the numbers. It is about who really calls the shots there. There are troops from Australia, Britain, Germany, Poland and god knows who else. But every body talks about Gen. McChrystal and now Gen. Petraeus. Hardly any mention of the Australian or British commander on the ground.
That speaks for itself.

No, the americans do not command any other countries military in Afghanistan. Each country has their own commander in afghanistan who give orders to their own soldiers. Each country is given their own territory to maintain. Each country is part of the ISAF which is led by the NATO, and they hand out general orders, and general aims, but they don't dictate everything.

It's a common misconception that the Americans are in charge and they order everyone else around, not true.
