US to allow direct flight access to Pakistan

Direct flight doesn't have to be PIA. May be Emirates Qatar etc al could do it.

highly doubt it. dad worked in pia at the airport. this was around the time that pia was a launch customer for 777-200lr which could do non stop to lahore. every time dhs came to check security the airports failed, due to holes in security. that was the reason that we never got a non-stop flight. dad passed away about 16 years ago.

my family is visiting pk, and since my bil is one of the real owners of pk, he was able to come get my family at the aircraft. he has no airport pass, he should not be allowed to get into dep/immig hall. kuch nahi badla.

Solution is simple
Privitaze airports
And let private airlines take over

If pakistan is to survive corruotion it needs to privitaze everything since only in private sector is corruption is haram ..its halal in govt sector

People shit on pakistani aviation industry a lot - and yes it's not perfect but it's not completely crap either
It most certainly can improve but to make broad generalizations about it (like how many pakistanis do ) is low key unfair

The reason why PIA got banned in the E.U and in other countries for fair brief period of time was simply because our people and politicians alike went public about fake pilot license case and the corruption that is happening. Obviously that is a huge concern but these things should be solved quietly domestically. Look at Air India, the dirtiest airline in the world. It went bankrupt and sold to TATA. Egyptian and South Korean pilots have a bad reputation of landing aircrafts but their conduct in the way they present the airline marketably internationally is a stark contrast from us. Frankly we are a dumb nation. if we continue to expose ourselves shamelessly why would anyone want to come to Pakistan and invest in any industry or for that matter do trade? We have to ask these questions to ourselves. Our mouths need to shut and actions need to start happening.

I only took a direct flight from nyc to lahore once with PIA. It wasn’t bad. Can’t remember but I think it took 15 hours?

I timed it once on a stop watch; 13 hours exactly from wheel up at JFK to wheels down in Lahore

It was back in 2009 and I had forgotten. I was initially going to say 13 too but then I was like wait that seems too short. Anyways I liked that flight because I hate stops.

Seems short? Direct flight from Lahore to London is 9ish hrs. 8 30 from Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan is perhaps one of the few countries where the aviation regulator is also the one running the airports!

PTI govt did move to change this, but there was stiff opposition from within CAA. In the end, the first step chosen was to make two semi-autonomous divisions, one to regulate the other to operate. They would be in principle different from each other.

Don't know what happened to that after the government change, but would not be surprised if it got blocked. After all, N has always been beholden to mafias and unions which support it.

According to sources, the PIA will acquire Airbus A-330 and Boeing-787 within the first quarter of 2023 as part of its improvement policy.

Interesting that they went for both, I wonder what the plan is operating 3 different long haul types...

Unfortunately yes. The ideas were good...but political realities set in soon after. Akhir phir election bhi to jeetna hai.

Just take the CAA move again...CAA actually threatened to strike and stop operations at airport altogether if the airport functions were taken away from them. So, good idea...but had to back down on it in the end.

This view is too simplistic. Privatization is not the solution. Many airlines around the world are partially government owned. Air France, Emirates, Air Canada, Turkish are all partly owned by government.

What Arshad Malik was doing was quite good. He needed time. The imported govt of the thieves dismissed him as one of the first steps. PIA can be restructured. It needs time. We as a nation dont have patience.
