well the US is helping to modernize Taiwan Defense forces again.
1st by selling 108 M1A2T, anti air missiles and support elements for a package deal of 2.2billion.
now for another $8billion they are selling 66 F16C/Ds.
both weapon platforms will allow Taiwan to retire older weapon systems.
Taiwan will likely retire their 100 M48A5 +265 M48H tanks. or maybe their 200 M60A3. parts and trained soldiers will determine which platform will make room for the M1A2Ts.
the 87 F5E/F will be likely retired from the Air Force in favor of the F16C/D. they already have 144 some F16A/Bs.
the real question is will they sell Major Warships to Taiwan aging Naval forces? since China is really making advancements in both quality and quantity of their Naval Forces.
the US still has 10 Oliver Hazard Perry Guided Missile Frigates that are just waiting for sale to a foreign country. Taiwan would gladly buy these ships. since they already have 10 of them. a further ten would allow them to retire their 6 Knox class Ships.
Same would be true IF the US retires it 5 oldest Ticonderoga Class Cruisers between 2021 to 2025. that would allow Taiwan to retire it 4 Kidd Class Cruisers.
