1-NATO supplies from Iran would cost 20% cheaper than Pakistan
2-If all goes well, US exit would likely to be routed through Iran than Pakistan.
3-Iran has agreed to provide necessary security for the supplies.
4-Northern Alliance leaders brokering the deal between US and Iran.
5-Once a formal agreement is reached, drone attacks likely to accelerate in Pakistan.

. .
Wait, does this mean the Iranians get to play our "trump card"? Drats!
Very likely. Iran will get whatever comes her way financially. This would likely US from the blackmail in Pakistan. Plus not to mention the cargo traffic at the Iranian coasts.

wow... if this is true, then it's a huge development. To some extent this will definitely undermine Pakistan's so called strategic importance in the region! So called gateway to central Asia may have just found a competitor!

That port we just just built in Iran -Chabahar with a road connecting it to Afghanistan is sure going to witness heavy traffic now.

I guess we made the right bet on helping with the building of the port and road connection. If this deal goes through then we won't have to worry about the security of the road, since it will fall under US and NATO protection.

What do you think that Chah Bahar was leading upto?
There is some method to the madness of some of the recent events.

Absolutely! This is precisely the reason why Indian govt invested huge amount of money in building that infrastructure. Seems like that long term plan by Indians are going to pay dividends sooner than they thought!

The section passing through Iran will be under Iranian Security. They are not the kind of people to let just about anybody tramp about all over their place.
However; while this will be logical conclusion to all the parleys that have been going on between various parties, I'd still wait for an official confirmation yet.

That being said; this is in the logical chain of thinking which started quite a while ago. Even China is likely to need this route if they hope to encash on their commercial interests in Afghanistan.

Any other source for this news?

The source is a "Islamist Newspaper" which is published by a sect that considers Shia as "Non Muslims" and Iran as the "Worst country on the face of Earth" . no other source so far

Any such development though would be good for the region . But it may not undermine the significance of Gawadar port and Gawadar-Kasghar proposed rail road

b/w Is Chahbahar a deep water port ?
