US radio transmission companies DIEVAH RADIO & MASHFAL RADIO are criticized by tribal leaders blaming on transmitting negative and aggravation propaganda against Pakistan, Islam, Waziristan & Khaiber P.K province. They urge to federal government authorities to ban these transmissions. In Miran shah, tribal leaders Malik Darya khan, Arbab khan & Ayub khan with other leaders told journalists about organized and planned negative propaganda against Pakistan & Islam transmitted by these US supported Radio stations aims to hit & crack on the base of the sovereignty of Pakistan. They added that local residents are unrested and violent over this anti Pakistan propaganda, moreover these US radio stations are playing key role to create misunderstandings between tribes & Pakhtoons in form of war.

So one thing we know that US, NATO are stressing Pakistan to go for operation in North Waziristan, but on other hand their intelligence playing full role to destabilize cultural & traditional situation across & in the boarder of Pakistan where their aim to start an other endless war between Pakistani tribes & Pakhtoons across Afghanistan border moreover between Phakhtoons in Khaiber P.K. Their aim is not only start war in North Waziristan but their eyes are on Balochistan and moreover to disbalance situation throughout Pakistan, where India already supports TTP.

So I can’t understand why Pakistan government allows US companies to play such role in shape of aid or reforms?

I would like if members will post their opinions & comments.

It is quite simple. The article is BS propaganda by the jihadis. No truth to it. That is why the GoP allows US companies to not do it.

RFE/RL Launches Radio Station in Pakistan's Pashtun Heartland

January 14, 2010
(PRAGUE, Czech Republic) On January 15, RFE/RL will begin broadcasting in the local Pashto dialects to Pakistan and the border regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The new station - called Radio Mashaal ("Torch" in Pashto) - will offer an alternative to the growing number of Islamic extremist radio stations in the region.

"There is an urgent need for accurate, objective news and information in Pakistan's tribal areas," says U.S. Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke. "Radio Mashaal's commitment to professional journalism in the local language will be an important contribution toward peace, reconciliation and democracy in the region."

Veteran Pakistani journalist and author Ahmed Rashid says he hopes Radio Mashaal "will provide people the kind of information they need to make the right decisions about their lives."

One surprise in store for listeners will be the reappearance of Haroon Bacha, a popular Pashtun singer who fled the region last year amid death threats from the Taliban. The 36-year-old recording artist - whose dozens of albums, music videos and television appearances made him one of the most famous entertainers in the region - will be hosting a cultural affairs show for Radio Mashaal. FATA: Farhad Shinwari, a senior tribal journalist, is serving as reporter for different media organizations since last ten years. He is now attached with an international media organization Radio Free Europe “Mashaal” which is broadcasting from Prague.

Farhad Shinwari is one of the young and talented journalists from Fata. He has done so far a great job during the current militancy while reporting for Radio Mashaal. His way of reporting the militancy incidents have been discussed worldwide and he was appreciated for his dedication with his profession and affection for the motherland and its people.

Farhad Shinwari has done graduation and very famous for script writing for radio journalism.

A special report he prepared for Mashaal radio was on a girls’ primary school destroyed in bomb blast in Landikotal.it was absolutely incredible. The great job in the interview he conducted with a small girl named Sharara. She said in her interview that she fear that her future had been thrown in darkness as her school had no more on the ground. She said students would not go out of homes due to fear of explosions. In nutshell, Farhad Shinwari is one of the outstanding and capable journalist in Fata.

Several of tribal journalists quit journalism during the last ten years militancy and most of others either migrated to safer areas or keep them selves confined to report only soft news. But Farhad Shinwari never hesitated and always filed balanced news for Mashaal radio. Despite threats and challenges in the current scenario he never misused his skills to harm anyone’s feelings. Every time he on-aired his report in a very professional way.

America’s Pakistan Radio Diplomacy

By Aamir Latif
Saturday, 09 October 2010 09:14

ISLAMABAD – While traditional diplomacy and aid have failed to improve the US image in the south Asian Muslim country, the United States is turning to airwaves to win hearts and minds in Pakistan’s tribal belt.

“The basic purpose of these radio channels is propaganda aimed at projecting the positive image of the United States and condemn its opponents (Taliban),” Tahir Khan, an Islamabad-based broadcaster, told OnIslam.net on Saturday, October 9.

The US has launched two Pashtu radio channels - Mashaal (lit torch) and Diva (lamp)- to counter the Taliban propaganda and ease the rising anti-America hostility in the tribal region.

The content of the two channels, which are based in Washington and Prague, offers various attractions for Pashtun audience.

It includes news, talk shows, live telephonic conversation with common people, songs, and other programs focusing on local traditions.

“But one thing is common in all the programs. They all are aimed at condemning Taliban and projecting US efforts for Pashtun population,” said Khan.

Veteran Pashtun journalists and singers have also been hired by the channels, which are part of the state-owned Voice of America, to lure locals.

Haroon Bacha, a prominent Pashtu singer, who had abjured music over Taliban threats, was hired by Mashaal radio and has moved to Washington along with his family to work as the head of the channel’s entertainment section.

Earlier, the Voice of America had aired America Ghag (voice) program for Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Pashtun belt till three years ago.

However, the corporation decided to launch a separate channel for Pakistan’s Pashtun belt, stretching from the country’s northwest to southeast.

The two radio channels are seen as making inroads in winning the locals’ hearts and minds.

“Though, the radio diplomacy has not achieved the desired results so far, we cannot term it a failure,” Khan said.

“No doubt, these two channels have revived radio in Pakistan, especially in Pashtun tribal belt. They (channels) have a huge audience there.”

Thousands of free radio sets have been distributed in Pashtun belt of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Balochistan provinces to attract the locals towards the US radio channels.

The reception of Diva and Mashaal is much better than the BBC, whose Pashtu service used to dominate undisputedly in the region till three years.

“These channels have successfully involved the Pashtun population into discussion, which is their one of the biggest achievements,” Tahir said.

“Now, the people talk, and even some of them condemn Taliban on telephone.”

Imtiaz Hussein, a Peshawar-based analyst, agrees.

“Just imagine, where there are no newspapers, no TV, the local people have just radio, which is their sole source of information,” he said.

“If information is presented in a twisted and slanted way, and there is no other way to recheck that, it will automatically work in one way or other.”

The analyst, however, sees that the US drone attacks in the tribal belt are undermining the radio diplomacy to improve America’s image.

“There is no doubt that these channels have attracted a large number of Pashtuns,” Hussein said.

“But if you ask me how much productive they have turned out to be as far as America’s image is concerned, I would say very little.

“Whatever (US) image these channels promote in months, one drone attack and the deaths of civilians ruin that effort within hours,” he said.

US unmanned drones often launch attacks in Pakistan’s tribal belt on borders with Afghanistan to hunt Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.

A recent survey jointly conducted by New America and Terror Free Tomorrow, a Washington-based think tank,, shows that 90 percent of tribesmen oppose US attacks on their soil.

According to the survey, anti-US sentiments are running high in all seven agencies of the federally administered tribal areas (FATA).

Similarly, 75 percent tribesmen are against the presence of Al-Qaeda, while 50 percent are against the Taliban presence on their soil.

The survey also found that a majority of tribesmen believe that the US pullout from Afghanistan and a solution of the Palestinian problem can their opinions in favor of America.

The answer is quite simple: to install a government that will be best friends with India and Israel. Isn't that obvious?

It is beyond the reality and tribes will not get into the nest which US government planned for them, mass information and their transmission does not a problem but problem stands when in user contract written to inform about Pakistan and on air some planned agenda against Pakistan. That's make difficulty over trust. These licenses are access given to foreign companies as "axe hit on toe" for government.
