US plan to use UNSC pressure against Pakistan to fail due Pakistan alliance with China Russia

Not to mention the deadline of million+ refugees being ejected will add to the pressure. Secondly their is no other alternative.

This will just cause chaos for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pushing 1 million plus Afghan refugees will not be easy. Good luck on that.

Depends on who blinks first. We shall see. If Pakistan feels confident that US will return to the fold, then go ahead and close the supply line. What does Pakistan have to lose?

No need till now..

When the objectives are being met by merely sending back refugees, there is no point to overkill.

Yes, if US takes steps to ban the imports and the remittances, it will be a different response from Pakistan altogether..

And you guys shouldn't forget that we have done it in the past for several months..

This will just cause chaos for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pushing 1 million plus Afghan refugees will not be easy. Good luck on that.

We already pushed a significant percentage.. No chaos resulted in Pakistan.. in fact we felt a lil better..

WASHINGTON: The new US plan to use the UN Security Council pressure against Pakistan is likely to fail because of Pakistan’s alliance with the regional and global powers like China and Russia.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley on Wednesday stressed the Kabul government wants world powers to step up pressure on Pakistan.

Haley joined the 14 other council envoys for talks with top Afghan leaders in Kabul at the weekend as the government considers holding peace talks with the Taliban to end decades of insurgency.

“They feel confident that the Taliban will be coming to the table,” Haley told reporters at UN headquarters. While the peace talks will be Afghan-led, the Kabul government did request that the Security Council weigh in to bring Pakistan onboard.

“They did ask us for consensus to put further pressure on Pakistan to come to the table and change their behaviour,” Haley said.

The Afghan government is making strides towards stability, she said, and “continue to make ten steps forward and with Pakistan they feel like they continue to take steps backwards.” “As long as they are supporting terrorism in Pakistan, the Afghan community is continuing to feel it is not safe,” she said.

Haley did not specify what measures could be taken to pressure Pakistan, but the council does have the power to impose sanctions.

Pakistan has long been accused of supporting the Taliban and various militant groups in Afghanistan — charges it denies.

President Donald Trump has frozen US payments of military aid to Pakistan, worth $900 million, saying Pakistan is not doing enough to target Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani guerrilla group.

A question mark also hangs over a further $1 billion of US military equipment for Pakistan.

US officials believe that Pakistan's intelligence agency and military have long helped fund and arm the Taliban to counter rising Indian influence in Afghanistan, whose government is backed by the US.

The Afghan government also requested council help to address narcotics production and trafficking, looking at “every country that moves them,” said Haley.

The council visit — the first since 2010 — comes as the government holds a conference next month to present its strategy for reaching a settlement with armed groups.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador Kairat Umarov, who led the council trip, said parliamentary elections must take place this year and be transparent “to ensure the credibility of the government” and “prevent further destabilization.”

Nikki Haley has become a complete joke

indeed................:haha:

US has sensed Pakistan's mood this time.. that's why every other day someone is coming or calling from US to meet Pakistani officials to calm things down..

there really aren't any other alternatives, maybe haqqani(washington wala) is a triple cross agent his expertise on Pakistan are benefitting Pakistan, all leverage on Pakistan is expiring.

I doubt Nikki Haley is a 'rogue' element in US government. It's not like she's an unknown quantity. She's a politician -- a former governor -- and doesn't hid her Indian origins. It wouldn't change things if she was a white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP), the message would be the same.

Frankly, this talk of rogue elements withing US government is mostly a bunch of of conspiratorial nonsense. No doubt Indians and Israelis have great influence over US, but this comes more from convergence of interests than anything; while Pakistan influence in US is waning due a divergence of interests, from Afghanistan to China.

We don't give a toss about our influence in America. We are just identifying the ills within American establishment. And that is what ISPR also mentioned not long ago. If a state is getting hijacked by bunch of individuals whose real allegiance lies elsewhere, we just have to call spade a spade. I am sure there are plenty within America who understand this real problem within American establishment. We just need to work with these lot to nullify and neutralise these foreign imports within American power circle. Its better for America as well when it will make decision solely on the basis of American interest, not for Isreal or India.

Indians once again forgot their place and ways. Stopping import from Pakistan is non consequential to Pakistan. Just because indian racist wish, US can not act against its constitution and create a race based discrimination.

And at the UN, if US dare to bring it, Pakistan can easily dump refugees on US lap and that's that.
Stopping import from Pakistan is non consequential to Pakistan, how did you come to that, check the numbers and see don't speak like a jamati without logic.whats racist in it US has imposed sanctions before and it can impose economic sanctions on any country

LOL I wonder what is stopping fake curry Nikki from doing that.
Don't worry it will reach there unless Pakistan stops supporting terrorists .

Hey cheerleader, it is non-consequential not only is trade volume between Pakistan and the US very low anyway, but nothing in that trade is an important good or service that Pakistan depends on. The only exception to this is spare parts for military equipment, but the Pentagon is not on the same page as the whitehouse clowns so they will resist completely ending that anyway.

Even if they suddenly did decide to cut off spare parts too, Pakistan will stop buying US equipment and start sourcing parts from elsewhere and possibly start reverse engineering whatever is in inventory. Other countries will see these events and will absolutely be much more reluctant about buying US equipment.

And, Pak can always visit the Chinese body shops to sort spare problems out....
