US okays delivery of drones to Pakistan

. .
Waste of reimbursments.
Not needed any more, better take cash.
I really think we can try to learn how to make a 20+ hour surveillance drone of this size ourselves by taking a closer look at it, at the very least (even if you ignore the fact that it will fulfill a purpose and we have nothing and can not produce anything with its capabilities).

Tactical Drone guys!!!!! It is not required to fly across the border -- so no need for longer ranges. It will save lives of our soldiers -- by sending sharper images to ground commanders while operating far ahead of an advancing patrol or where search and seizure operations operations are being carried out.

This platform was extensively used in Afghanistan to patrol important roadways prior to combat patrols and helped identify IED's and possible ambush points.

Loiter time of 22+ hour gives an immense advantage to a company or a battalion commander required to send out regular policing patrols -- eyes in the sky with low operating cost is cost effective force multiplier.

IMHO the acquisition needs to be seen in the context of the job it is required to do or can perform and not our wet or not so wet dreams!!!!!
The only voice of sanity, sadly.

So u mean our unarmed homegrown drone isnt as good as this one?

kai saal se USA ye kachra pakistan ko thopna cha raha tha . now look the price tag and then come back mam
Short range surveillance drone hai
If US is paying then you shouldnt have any problems with that

kachra and garbage
You dont know how drones work. Different drones have different roles. You sound like someone who would call C130 garbage just because we have F-16's

These tactical drones don't need an airbase to fly from, they are life saving for independent battallion in need of assessing their surroundings, or these can be launched by Artillery corps to select targets on their own without need for coordination from PAF.

US okays delivery of drones to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - The United States has approved supply of short-range, unarmed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ScanEagle to help Pakistan in intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance capability in its counter-terrorism operations.
According to reports, hardware and technical data will be delivered to Pakistan under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme by August 2016. It was further reported that 90% of the work will be carried out in the USA and the remaining 10% in Pakistan. Pakistan will receive ScanEagle system through a deal worth $10.52 million.
ScanEagle carries a stabilised electro-optical and/or infrared camera on a lightweight inertial stabilised turret system, and an integrated communications system having a range of over 62 miles (100 km). It has a flight endurance of over 20 hours.
It is designed to provide high quality real-time ground imaging through adverse weather conditions or other battlefield obscurants.
Its not an aid we are buying it i think ,its sold under fms

Why would usa pay for it?

You're exactly right! NO!

We have no drone of this size class that is anywhere near this drone's capability. 20 hour endurance is something huge. I don't think you appreciate that fact. A drone this size, launched without an airstrip, can provide surveillance for almost an ENTIRE day! Imagine the tactical advantage this brings.

I am now going to do something I am probably going to regret. I am going to compare apples and oranges. But it is to make a point so bear with me.
Our Shahpar has a stated endurance of 7 hours. So the shahpar would have to fly from an airstrip, fly to the area of operations, fly back after 7 hours (much less on station). So if you needed nonstop coverage you would need at least two shahpars. One would fly to station, while the other would relieve it of its duty by arriving before the first one left. You'd do this almost 4 times to get to around 24 hours.
With the scaneagle some soldiers in the field would launch it right there and then. It will fly and pretty much provide the same intel (okay the sensor payload MIGHT be inferior to shahpars but I'm not entirely sure of that either) for almost the same time 20+ hours.

And we have the audacity to claim this is crap? Who are we kidding.

Brilliant. This will boost the army`s situational awareness in the battle field and will save countless lives of our precious soldiers.

.
One of americas eldest drones i guess.
- Dont know about the camera but, very short range , and unarmed. I would define this is garbage.

. .
You try making something that small fly for 20 plus hours.
I've tried saying that multiple times on this thread but everyone just ignores it lol

I was actually looking for a Pakistani UAV that I could use to compare to the ScanEagle. I couldn't find any suitable candidates. The ones in its weight class are wheeled and require airstrips and the ones that are catapult launched are too big. Interestingly, NONE of them have an endurance of more than 7 hours. That should tell us something.
