What's new

US offers its latest fighter to India

yes, nothing can happen in next 10 years keep telling your self that
And you keep telling yourself that tomorrow on 14 Jan when you'll wake up Indian will have 250 FGFA and 500 F35.

I doubt that indian is that important to US.

Well it may not be so as India and China emerge as dominant economies of the world, the spending power of these two nations is tremendous and afterall, defence market is a lucrative area for earnings and you can guess out of the two whom shall US favor.
A growing Indian demand for US produced hardware will be helpful in infusing more funds into US companies where the defence productions are in privated hands and these companies are not exclusively in defence sector. In a way, it stimuates these companies and helps protect jobs. Also, US will be willing to provide India with the necessary hardware for 2 reasosn 1. The growing scope of AQ domination in mid-east with possible flow to CARs 2. China factor.

In either scenario (the former being the more realistic case) Indo-US joint operatibility will be required and the same shall be much easily achieved by having common platforms (NATO type thoughts here)

recently indian army cheif has been talking to wage war on both china and Pakistan.

This is nothing new. Please refer back to 1971 war when China implicitly threatened India with tacit US backing as also Ex. Chequerboard in 1987-88 period following Ex. Brasstacks

Care to tell which year we'll have war, in this case it is wise for PAF not to wait for 2030? or if all these expensive shopping is for nothing and in such case PAF should not care if india get 100 F-35 and 100 nukes from US.

best part, there shall be no war ......

hold it right there folks americans don't want f-35 technology ends up in pak-fa..
its too early and unrealistic..united states will not give anything like f-35 to india fearing proliferation..

slightly off beat here .... no, your suggestions have no merit as the fact remains that Russia does supply to China also .... so while India may get F-35 (if indeed we go for it which IAF does not seem to want) and at the same time India gets to see FGFA work, any transfer of know-how from F-35 may not exactly be in Indian interests also as Russians may just offer the same to China (much like Su-30 issue) and after both exposures we shall have HAL coming up with another mother of MonaLisa which shall never get fielded ...... so in the end ... no requirement of speculations ..... IAF wont get anything :taz: .....

we are in process of MCA,a joint program with russia ,and f35 offer

and what will be strength of IAF

how Pakistan think tank will be feeling and thinking now

@faithfulguy - India just dont want a figher. We have learnt tha r & d is a more secured way to the future hence fgfa with t-o-t and mca our home effort suffices our needs.

besides, US IS UNWILLING TO give the tech to israel, so fgfa is far far better for us.
F-35 may be considerd for IAC-2 . May be 1 or 2 sqadrons.

Besites, its not paf that is a threat to india. Mki + mmrca is more than enough to counter paf.
Its plaaf that worries india which is 3 times iaf. So we need gen 5 figher not for paf atlest till 2030.

When USA was giving Pakistan that small militry aid that we needed to fight with terrorists, India was shouting that aid would be used against India in the end. Now India is not fighting with terrorists on the scale we are doing and it is receiving best of the best equipment that will be surely used against Pakistan and probably China.

Er.. there is a small difference of Aid vs commercial sale. Militatary aid amounts to US contributing towards arms build up against India. In case of the F 35, if at all, it will be a pure commercial transaction.

If US offers something in the shape of military aid it's supposed to be contributing towards an arms build up aimed against India? Yet, when it's a military sale it isn't? That's an odd comparison.

if true, would be the final nail in the coffin for US-Pak relations.

As far as I'm concerned, the final nail in the coffin for US Pak relations was delivered when the US decided to invade Afghanistan and destabilize Pakistan in the process.

Never say never. OTOH, it's your choice to end our relationship with you at any time. Were I Pakistani, I'd not be so eager but...I'm not.

Pretty neat plane, eh?

The feeling is that the US is sucking up to India for their own interests. The US wants to create a rift between two emerging powers. Instead, India should resolve all of their conflicts on the table with the concerned parties. India, China and Pakistan will be here long after the US is gone and left everyone high and dry. The best solution is for all parties to discuss their mutual interests and find ways of resolving disputes instead of building an arms race.
