HAFIZABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said the USA, and not the government of Pakistan, is carrying out drone attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Pakistan is helpless to stop these attacks as it has no such technology to counter the drone strikes.

Talking to journalists after inaugurating the passport office here on Saturday, the interior minister said Pakistan’s F-16 fighter planes could attack any target up to 33,000 feet height, while drones fire missiles from a height of over 66,000 feet. That’s why Pakistan was helpless to stop those attacks, Rehman Malik added.

About the desecration of the Holy Quran in Florida, the minister asked the Obama administration to include the name of the fanatical pastor in the list of terrorists.

In response to a question, Rehman Malik said India is our neighbouring and friendly country. It has invited President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to watch the semi-final of the World Cup, and they would definitely to there, he added.

He said the whole nation was looking towards the national cricket team, and now it is their responsibility to make all efforts to win the match and do not indulge in any match-fixing practices. He hope Pakistan would won the World Cup.

Our Hafizabad Correspondent adds: Rehman Malik said the nation was united to eliminate terrorism and a handful of terrorists could not destabilise the country.

“The PPP government has completed its three years despite a lot of challenges and it will complete its tenure successfully,” he said, adding that the PPP was the party of the downtrodden and it was solving their problems sincerely instead of making hollow slogans. He claimed that President Asif Zardari had saved the country from disintegration after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto and promoted reconciliation to strengthen democracy. He urged the international community to respect Islam and the Holy Quran.

The minister appealed to Mufti Muneeb, Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman to meet him in Islamabad to discuss the desecration by a US pastor. He assured that he would lead the rally against the pastor, as it was the issue of all Muslims, and not a political party. He announced recruiting 15 disabled people from the district in different departments and asked MPA Malik Fayyaz to recommend their names through a fair draw.

Online Adds: The interior minister saluted Altaf Hussain and Asfandyar Wali for continuing their support to President Zardari, saying that time is not appropriate to pull each others’ legs. “The PPP has rendered sacrifices for national interests.” About the desecration of the Holy Quran by a fanatic in Florida, he urged the UN to take notice of it and evolve plans for promoting cultural and religious harmony in the world. “The US must play its role to stop the heinous criminal act as it will bring an irreversible damage to the world peace, especially when the world is fighting a war against terrorism,” the minister said. He asked the US to take up the issue with the authorities concerned to stop the insane priest from committing the criminal act.

Well this statement should be changed to " Pakistan has no feasible counter to drone strikes"

.
That conclusion is unjustified in the present context.

Pakistan Air force, its F 16 on high alert after drone attacks, are useless. Our Minister has told us why. Now who is the Air Force fooling, claiming they are on high alert? They cant do $hit to stop drone attacks. Next time I wouldn't be too surprised seeing Anti Pakistani sentiments on Youtube and other Forums coming from Pashtuns of Pakistan.

.
Doesn't the F-16 have a higher altitude ceiling than a MQ-9 Reaper ?
approx. 60,000 ft. vs. approx. 55,000 ft.

.
its not a question of service ceiling . Its a question of political will power.
Pakistan government knows that if they shoot even one reaper..US will go berserk.

.
Technology is not the problem as even Taliban shot down a predator couple of years back, but for Pakistan such an option does not exists ..as it will only be a few million dollars loss for US, but Pakistan will suffer billions of dollars of loss as a consequence.

.
Speaking of technology, there were reports about some Afghans managing to land American drones. There were also similar reports from Iraq where insurgents had hacked into the control system and were able to receive data being transmitted to anf from the drone.

.
That's lie, that's excuse. Btw, Malik is not telling the truth. Residents (in local area) recently report said they able to see regular drones easily on the sky.

It shows how easily they know to make fun with Pakistanis, still surprise for which reasons our military establishment bear this nonsense actor of government.

Somebody must inform Mr. Rehman Malik that this is 21st century & now even in villages people could search on Google & check all specifications of predator & F-16 or JF-17 Thunder for comparison.

Where i think he even don't know how to use computer & internet se he assumed that nobody knows.

Doesn't Pakistan has any suitable & efficient for this seat than any kind of Political Jokers?

.
When you curse the politicians and rightly so because they are the worst kind please remember the army as well mr agno made a good point that army is now under civilian command so they will only comply if given orders by the civilian leadership good post his was but he forgot that real power lies with GHQ if they can speak so openly criticize KL bill why this silence on drone attacks hence my point they are paid well to keep their mouth shut !!

.
