TOKYO -- Japan will partner with the U.S. and Europe to develop quantum computers and related technology, Nikkei has learned, broadening their efforts as China pours national resources into the race for ultrafast processing power.

Government officials and researchers gathered in Kyoto on Monday and Tuesday for the International Symposium on Quantum Technology. The three sides affirmed cooperation on quantum computers, quantum measurement and sensors, and communication technology and cryptography.

Japan and the U.S. are expected to sign an agreement on such cooperation soon.
The governments will help fund joint research and personnel exchanges at national agencies, universities and other institutions working on practical quantum technology. They aim to attract private-sector investment as well.

Quantum computing holds the promise of vastly sped-up information processing. They are predicted to revolutionize tasks that would take existing supercomputers years, including the hunt for new drugs and optimizing city and transportation planning.

In October, scientists at Google said they executed a task with quantum computer in "about 200 seconds" versus the roughly 10,000 years a traditional supercomputer would need to solve a similar problem.

Japan, the U.S. and Europe are accelerating their push in the field in response to China's rapid rise. China published more papers on quantum technology than any other country in the decade through 2018, according to Dutch research company Elsevier. The U.S. worries about the technology's implications on national security.

Chinese players like Alibaba Group Holding are working on building quantum computers, as well as on quantum communication, which uses a powerful type of encryption. The Chinese government is building a $10 billion laboratory in Anhui Province that is scheduled to be completed next year.

Japan has a strong track record of foundational research in quantum technology, and has sophisticated abilities on quantum measurements and communication. But it has lagged behind when it comes to putting the technology to practical use use, partly because of smaller investment compared with the U.S. and China.

Wow it takes 3 countries to match one Chinky country? What era am I living in? A decade ago, we were just exporting cheap plastic toys. Hmmm

Actually alot more than 3 countries

I am not paying 2 bucks for that. Lolol, but I can assure you another country makes it.

Again, if you have any inquiry regarding the MIT report, let them know. I just quote what they are saying at the beginning of the year. If you have sufficient evidence point out that there are another company making these photonic cable. Let them know.

Tell me you can assure me another country makes it on an internet forum does not do anything, I deal with publications and facts. And what you are offering is a conjecture.

Hence, if you have solid evidence to disprove the report, let MIT know, I am pretty sure they will retract the review. MIT being one of the world leader in scientific research and all.

whose making so called "photonic cables"? the cables in question are thermal. says so right in the article.

you seem to be confusing optical quantum computing and superconductor based quantum computing.

Shhhh dun tell yindoo bou genius here, he doesn't know some of the mosy advanced superconducting cables are made in China.

This guy is a HK banana. Seeing something that China is doing better than US hurts his white worship feeling.
Most likely jhungary or a yindoo.

As I said, I am not a cable person nor an engineer, I am an accountant by trade and a Law Grad. How would I know what's what? I saw a report some time ago from a world renown institute. I quote you that report.

again, if you have any proof that point to otherwise, please let MIT know, I am not going to comment on conjecture and guess or "let me tell you"

by the way, the article did not say thermal, it said it does not conduct that much heat, not that it is thermal. And photonic cable do not actually conduct much heat, and one of the application is heat detection.

Yes, I am a banana, if that make you feel better.

As I said, I quote what I saw, and unlike you lot. I don't go in "Let me tell you this" or "I know this so shut up" If you have any question regarding on what I quote, take it to the person that I quote from.

Also, I think what I say here are neutral. I just point out an MIT report mention it is very hard to source component for Quantum computer. That mean US need help (was that your OP POV anyway?) If China do not need help sourcing those component, then good on them. I do not think China is better or US is better. If I think so, I would say so, but as I said, I know nothing on Quantum Computing. I would not have a comment on it, and even if I do, that would all be my conjecture, and unlike you people, I keep my conjecture to myself.

Then let MIT know lol. What is the point to keep saying this over on an internet forum that is neither popular nor authority?

If you think China make world leading cable and the MIT report is wrong, let MIT know, I have already quote you their contact reference. If you are right, I am pretty sure you will want to see MIT retract their word and be humiliated? Right?

Most likely jhungary or a yindoo.

Again, who is this jhungary? This is the third time you people said that. Also, what is a yindoo? And what being both have got to do with what I have to say?

Calm down hero, i ain't paying 2 bucks nor asking MIT to retract anything. Ignorance is bliss... Lol

Well, the definition of ignorant is lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.

So seems to be, unless you know something I don't, you are probably talking about yourself.
