US Navy ship collides with oil tanker in Gulf

I feel sorry for the Oil tanker's captain...He must be already on his way to Japan,and a very long court case coming his way
This is the problem of being a captain of a merchant ship. Even if you are not at fault, any such accident adversely affects your career. It appears from the posts that the US Navy Destroyer was the give way vessel and for the tanker, there was hardly anything to do to avoid the collision. A tanker is a giant fat lady, with sluggish maneuverability. A 3000 - 4000 ton destroyer should have an excellent maneuvering characteristics.
