US Navy set to begin patrols near China's man made islands

The Chinese here do understand that China considers those islands as its sovereign territory right? If the US Navy begins operations within 12 miles of those islands we've effectively shattered that sovereignty. It'd be like if I entered your home and you watched and did nothing about it. Today's patrol is a warning for tomorrow's take over. It doesn't take much to cause a Tsunami type earth quake on this Sand based reef. Just a few Torpedo hitting underneath the surface. No need for air attack or ship based attacks. Everything on the Reef / Island will be swimming with the Sharks with just a few powerful Torpedo hits

Adm. Harris of Pacific Command referred to those islands as "grapes" in testimony. In other words, easy targets. If I was a member of the PLA, I would not want to be based on those islands in the event of hostilities with the US.

I suspect the reason that the US has been humiliated in every international confrontation lately, from Syria to cyberspace, is because its foreign policy is run by people within your IQ range. So keep it up buddy

These are good to scare off some Sharks, catch some fish, scare of Philippines and Vietnam. But that's it. The billion spent, has no other purpose to be honest. They should've leased refueling space from others instead. But these are like grapes, not much needed to take these out.

If I was in PLAN (God forbid EVER), I would refuse to be stationed on these death traps. Instead, I'd chose to "retire gracefully"

What the hell is the point of spending all that money on a grandiose military if its unable to shoot down the constructions.

This patrol strategy exposes that the US is too scared to get into a military confrontation with China by failing to destroy the constructions.

China now knows it can do whatever it likes without facing a war. Russia too knows it can do the same from the experiences of Crimea and Syria. Both Russia and China called America's bluff on the assumption that America will use military force if they challenged the US. So much for the 'untouchable' soooooper powerrrrrr

If China can't prevent American warships from navigating the SCS as China wanted and has stated publicly, then building the islands failed its objectives which was to claim the whole area as its own.

Nonetheless. Island development continues. No anti-historical force can stand against the wave of China's development.

Besides, what is more urgent for the US these days is to save the terrorists in Syria from Mr. Putin's high tech toys.

Island development continues.....and? If you call pouring Sand in, and building a Reef and putting a Run Way that's sitting on 4 feet of Sand below a "development" then its fine. A grenade might put a hole enough to bring the Ocean water up and submerge the reef . I am concerned if a few of my boys from Texas with Cow Boys boots went there, the heels on them boots might put cracks in the runway . This is money being wasted IMO. A big write off for the Chinese military is coming when a few Torpedo will submerge this entire Island and the equipment will be floating above ocean for Sharks to live in.
