The United States and NATO are observing rapid improvements in Russia’s military technologies with increased concern, particularly as US technological advantages over potential adversaries decrease, US military and NATO officials said at a Center for a New American Security conference.

“Our [the US] military’s long comfortable technological edge…is steadily eroding,” US Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work stated on Wednesday. “We still believe we have a margin, but the margin is steadily eroding and it’s making us nervous.”

Areas of concern for the United States include the advances made by Russia and China in modernizing nuclear weapons, anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, long-range strike missiles, as well as counterspace, cyber, electronic warfare, and special operations capabilities, Work said.

What gives us all pause is that the military of our potential competitors around the worldhas been rising since 2001,” the Pentagon official commented, noting that during the same period, military spending by US allies has generally declined. The past decade’s reversal and growth in Russia’s military spending and force modernization poses a “challenge” to the United States, according to Work, with a “transoceanic and global” force projection.

NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander of Transformation, General Jean-Paul Paloméros stated on Wednesday that the transatlantic alliance is “closely monitoring” Russia’s fielding and development of advanced weapons systems.

General Paloméros referred obliquely to “game-changers” in Russia’s defense arsenal. Such systems, he said, “could deny our access to some strategic part of the alliance, or our ability to deploy our forces where and when it is needed.”

Given the narrowing edge of technological advantage over potential adversaries, NATO is focused on continually assessing how to transform itself “to keep the edge…on those very strategic domains,” the General stated.

Since 2012, Russia has been involved in a substantial military modernization program aimed at improving aging weapons systems and investing in new technologies through 2020, according to Russian official reports.

Over the past four years, Russia’s military expenditures have outpaced those of the United States as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP), according to World Bank data which showed US expenditures at 3.8 percent of GDP and Russia at 4.2 percent. The rest of the world averages military expenditures at slightly over 2 percent of GDP.

Dear US allies of mine, this equalization in the balance of power between the "true superpowers" of Earth is a good thing imo. It prevents one superpower trying to dominate other superpowers to unreasonable levels (as with the nato expansion eastward onto Russia's frigging doorsteps called Ukraine and the like). I hope the US is going to mature to the point of actually sharing (defense-)tech with Russia and China on the cheap, thus creating a bond of cooperation between these superpowers that enables the rest of the world to finally be policed quite a bit more properly than in the current status quo of "competition between these superpowers". A 5 year old can understand this, but Republicans/Conservatives can't? Do something about this, yanks.
And please dont be offended by criticism. Learn to absorb criticism with a smile so you can enjoy the fruits of what is being explained to you.

Are you serious??

While we are at it, how about the US and the west grant residence visa to all Chinese and Russian Citizens lol.........There is a reason one keep a defence force or an Army, that reason is called a border, are you seriously suggest we share everything and forego the border of each country??

.
I imagine that the US has some serious secret weaponry that no one has a clue about, I doubt any country would ever come near the US in terms of tech, their military and tech spending is ridiculous and to think any nation would come near it is laughable. US may be in NATO but you know for a fact that they are hiding alot of advanced weaponry from every other nation, they are almost 40% of the worlds military GDP, thats not exactly being spent on tools is it.

ofcourse not.

what i'm suggesting is that the US shares more of its weapons development results on the cheap with both Russia and China, that Russia and China do the same within a new alliance between these 3 countries, to in effect become part of a new non-aggression and military cooperation organisation on earth.
The obvious advantages to this would be a significant reduction in the proxy wars among in other smaller countries around the world that we've seen as clear and quite nasty repetitive result from the current status-quo : "competition between these 3 countries".
Yes, one has to carefully consider what defense technologies can be shared with whom, I can imagine there need to be security safe-guards that ensure that not only borders are protected, but that each of these 3 large countries can still police another country in that same alliance should one become politically and militarily too aggressive (which given the corruption problem in politics should be taken quite seriously).
But a cut-back in that competition-factor between these 3 self-declared "superpowers", seems overdue, to say the least.

I personally don't think you're real.I truly think you're a tooth fairy of stupidity and i must google online for some ancient cures that will make you dissapear. But the truth is,you're all to real and your kind flourishes in Europe,i can almost imagine you with guitars, with long hair, singing stupid songs under oak trees, moaning how the ice will melt or protesting outside under a nuclear plant.Sometimes, when i don't have nightmares such as those described above about your kind,i have pleasant dreams, altough rare, about tanks running you down....Ahh,in a perfect world....

What you are saying is contradict in term.

If US, Russia and China sign a non-aggressive and non compeye clause, then there woukd be no need to develope any weaponry, ie.Arms Race, therefore, no need to share any tech....

Or if you share any tech first, then what they would do is just understand that, and develope a counter tech, and kill each other, also no need to share anything then...

This is the same as saying...

The only way to world peace is by UN forces takeover all the country, but one need to ask, where are the UN soldier come from? UN is an entity form by individual country, its not a super entity that can cover all individual. The only way for the world to achieve world peace is by one single country took over the world, but then Ironically, UN Would be in the way of stopping that from happening.

So, one can argue, UN is actually obstructing the process of world peace..

Whenever one country has ever tried to rule the world, their empire collapsed. That'll hold true in all future timelines, i think.

Sorry you dont understand what i've explained in the message of me that you quoted, but I simply know of no simpler way to explain it to you.

dude, i understand what you were trying to say, but you cannot just look at thing in one direction.

If all goes according to you plan, a big if, then yeah, you can reduce conflict between the big 3 but still regional conflict do occur.

Not all regional conflict are proxies, you also need to account some power hunger landlord that would really start a war without any regard.

Have you heard of the sum of all fear hypothesis? Not the ben affleck movie, but actual hypothesis.

Its never the big one who hold all the big arsenal you need to be scare of, but the one that attack you and blame it on one of the big boy.

Trust me, you wont ever see a war between the big 3, but regional conflict and proxies war would continue. Even if you get a buddy-buddy big 3

.
i guess , we are not living a dream world , nobody is saint .. all country have a habit to interfere in other's country ..and in the age of Nuclear , forget about one country ruling the world ..
