US Marines brawl with Filipinos in KTV lounge

.
US marines beat up Filipino police and grab his gun in KTV lounge.

Philippine military spokesman Captain Celeste Frank Sayson said that the brawl was triggered by a simple misunderstanding, and that the problem was resolved "amicably." He added that the incident would not impact the Balikatan military exercise.

The three policemen were later disarmed by their superior and temporarily removed from their posts while undergoing an investigation, according to police Senior Superintendent Redentor Maranon, who heads the police force in Puerto Princesa city in Palawan province, where the scuffle happened.

Were those police supposed to be on duty then?

http://www.navytimes.com/story/mili...ine-police-bar-brawl-face-sanctions/82980988/

The Marines were at fault for that prank with the beer, but there really was no need to brandish that gun. If those were police, that guy was way way out of line for doing so, and the marine was right to disarm the guy.

Otherwise both sides were drunk neither side thought about the best way to divert the situation, which the Marines should have done (best way would be to just pay for the drink).

The marines will face disciplinary action, I'd support 1 month no shore leave or something relatively the same, because its a minor incident.

Oh yea, also doesn't look like much of a brawl.

. .
I don't understand why this make news? If another bother to look at the video, it was not the US Servicemen fault with this tassel. (And the title is extremely misleading too)

The Cop basically have it coming pulling a side inside the bar to begin with, this is the act that escalating the situation. The guy with the bag produced a 9 mm handgun (possibly a M9 pistol) at 4:48. Before that point, the scuffle was still peaceful, no one on either side engaged in any violent behaviour as we can see, only verbal abuse. A back and forth between the American and those Cops.

I cannot understand why the Cop need to banish the pistol at that stage, which basically is what triggered the tassel (Assuming the American wanted to disarmed that guy) and I am also assuming the Cop is drunk. If this happen in America or Australia, where a drunk cop pull out a side arms over a verbal argument. That cop is going to get the sack, no doubt.

What the American done wrong? The only thing the American is wrong is the practical joke which tap the beer of the passed out guy, I saw at least 2 American trying to claim down both side by pulling people out. But from there to pulling a pistol over it? The Filipino cop have some answering to do.

Embarrassment at brawling Dutch marines in Norway

Dutch military officials are severely embarrassed over a mass brawl initiated by around 30 marines while on a training exercise in northern Norway, media reports said on October 5. The country’s most senior general, Chief of Staff Dick Berlijn, has sent a formal apology to his Norwegian counterpart. Berlijn has pledged a full inquiry into the weekend incident that left locals with injuries including a broken foot, a broken wrist and a couple of broken noses.

One girl had a front tooth knocked out after 27 marines forced their way into the disco in the small town of Karasjohka on the evening of October 30 after being told they were not wanted. Reports said that the marines had been involved in a pitched battle with up to 60 locals, men and women. Berlijn made clear that, while an investigation by local police and Dutch military police was still underway, it was already clear that the marines were “thoroughly in the wrong.” “This sort of behaviour is not to be tolerated, certainly not from the military,” Berlijn said. Klement Turi, who runs the disco, said the marines had caused problems over the past three weeks. “The first thing they did was urinate on the dancefloor,” he said. He described the brawl on the night of October 30 as “worse than the Gaza Strip … We do not accept that troops are sent here to exercise their skills on the local population.” Norwegian police officer Svein Hanssen told the Dutch Volkskrant newspaper the trouble had begun with an excursion across the border to a bar in Finland, where the alcohol is cheaper.

The marines went around the tables taking drinks from other customers and molesting the girls. Local reports said three or four marines had touched the breasts and bottoms of girls and threatened their partners. The battalion commander of the 200 marines on exercise in the region has imposed a ban on leaving the base.

3 February 2007

AMSTERDAM – The Norwegian justice department has decided not to prosecute the Dutch marines involved in a fight in a disco in the Norwegian town of Karajok last year.

Several local residents had to be put under medical care after the incident. 27 Dutch marines were reportedly involved. The defence department suspended five of the soldiers two weeks after the incident.

The Norwegian public prosecution department reported its decision to the public prosecution department in Arnhem, which is responsible for criminal cases involving the military.

Defence Minister Henk Kamp compared the soldiers’ behaviour to that of problem youth. The marines belonged to a group of 200 participating in an exercise in northern Norway.

The prosecution department in Arnhem is looking into whether the marines should be prosecuted in the Netherlands in this case.

If they were on duty playing a drunk in a pub, I think they overkilled it, that dude was passed out (not just drunk) and you can see that cop is not faking it.

Another point being, no one in sane mind will put their side arm in a bag when they were on duty. On the other hand, they were all drunk, and if you are drunk and have a firearm in your hand, that is an extreme No-No situation. Anyone with a firearm handle course can tell you that.

lol. I honestly don't see how they can go from a practical joke to pulling out a gun. It just does not make sense.

Wrong !

The Police with the glasses first took the bag from his colleague to check if the gun is OK. He then put the gun away and sat down.
At 6:12 you can see both his hands (circled) NO GUN.

But that did not stop the US marine from attacking him from behind and wrestled him to the ground and grabbing the gun. At 6:51.

So who was wrong?

. .
Well you invite folks in, it's on your head. To be honest, it wasn't that bad.

That is sometimes... uh actually that is an issue with local Filipino police, specially under influence of alcohol; drawing guns immediately.

Anyways, you should know the purpose of this thread with a misleading title; trying to make a wedge between Filipinos and Americans, and basically a bait thread for the Chinese.

The Filipino cop is at fault in the news, but given the nature of PK Defence, expect the Chinese to come here very soon.

I don't know why you can try and argue stuff that recorded in a video.

First, at 4:52. The Cop pull the side arm out of the black bag, IN FULL VIEW.
screen 1.jpg

He is pulling it out IN FRONT of the American, if I was simply checking my sidearm, I won't,

A.) Full it out all the way, look at the bag, feel it was still there is enough.
B.) I won't display it in front of the "aggressor, turn my back behind him and check it if I have to"

That is highly likely the American know the pistol exist at this point. As he is showing it in front of the Americans right across him.

Then, he POINTED the gun to the American a few second later.

Screen 2.jpg

You can see the firearms and its bag/holster is still separated, full display of his side arm, this time, pointing it to an American. Basically, a minute later, he was disarmed.

The problem for your story is. There are no need for the police to check the firearm in the first place as you claim, the firearms is ALWAYS in the bag, until it was pull out for "Checking", I get the cop took the bag (with firearms) from the passed out colleague, but checking the pistol AT FULL DISPLAY?? Did that cop think the American have X-ray vision that they can see through the bag and "KNOW" psychically know there was a pistol in it? Secure the firearms is okay at that point, even it is at you said, "CHECKING" the firearm is not warranted. As nobody know that piece exist beside that 3 Filipino policeman.

Another issue is, that cop is DRUNK. You are not supposed to handle firearms when you are drunk, if I show up on a sport shooting event or at a gun range, waving my piece and checking my firearms in a clearly drunk state, what do you think the range's ranger would do? Sit there and laugh?

The third point is, those policemen should not have a firearm in the first place, they were off duty, they were DRUNK AND PASSED OUT. I cannot see any official reason for them to carry a side arm, in a sport bag, drunk and pass out in a pub.

If you did all three in country like the US and Australia, you will be fired from your job. This is very simple

LOL, if you think the American is at fault, and the Filipino is right to do what they did in this video, then I laugh at your ignorant.

Back then, PH cops didn't have sufficient equipment which include pistols, but when a program to give them service handguns, many Filipinos are uneasy about it because of this issue -drawing guns immediately due to being impatient or drunk.

To be honest, the Marine started this, but the DNP Cop escalated the whole thing in a new level.

It would still not alright for a civilian to banish weapon on such highly charged situation, but we are talking about the police, they are supposed to be trained with Firearms safety.

Problem is, what we saw in this 10 minutes video is a perfect video on what you should not do when you are drunk. It basically hit all the right note on firearms safety under the influence of alcohol...

Both side were to blame, but it was not the Marine faults this (tassel) happens, that cop basically have it coming banishing a weapon, drunk as a skunk, I mean, there would be casualty if the situation is not handle correctly, and the Marine was right to wrestle the sidearm out of that drunk cop hand. I would have done the same, on-off duty. In fact, the moment he pull out his side, it is actually his Filipino police colleague job to disarm him, not the Marine, and yet, they did nothing...That concerned me.

Sigh.........many people don't understand one simple rule regarding firearms handling.

Don't pull your side arms unless you are ready to shoot something.

Pulling the weapon is an action itself weight more heavier than actually shooting a person. police should be well train at this and to be honest. If this is what you said, that cops in Philippine generally pull out their side arms willy-nilly, then there is a problem with the system, which needed more training to stop, otherwise the police is just as dangerous as the criminal..........

wow. didn't catch that pointing, I thought they just brandished it!. Even more kudos to the marines, holy sh*t that's just crazy that he actually pointed it at them over a beer prank! :o: They should definitely not just be suspended but fired and barred from any jobs involving firearms.

The disarming was definitely the right move, as he showed he didn't know how to appropriately handle a firearm.
