US hands over new M-109 to PA

It is "Panter Howitzer" not "Panther Howitzer".

On the other hand the M777 as u know is different league of Howitzer, so no comparison is fair.

"Panter Howitzer" is used by small armies like Turkey and Pakistan only.

M777 is used by most advance and big countries like US, Australia, Canada, soon India.

The M777 is battle proven in Iraqi hot deserts and also in Afghanistan. "Panter Howitzer" is not battle proved as M777. M777 is latest and most advance.

The Ultralightweight Field Howitzer (UFH), designated M777 in the USA, was selected in 1997 by a joint US Army / Marine Corps initiative to replace the existing inventory of M198 155mm towed howitzers. The first of five EMD systems was delivered in June 2000. The US Marine Corps is to procure 380 systems and the US Army 273 systems. A low-rate initial production (LRIP) contract for 94 systems was awarded in November 2002.

Operational testing with the USMC, during which nearly 12,000 artillery rounds were fired by four production systems, was completed in December 2004. A contract for full-rate production of 495 systems was awarded to BAE Systems in April 2005. In May 2005, the USMC began fielding the M777 with the 11th Marines unit at Twentynine Palms in California.

The first 18 systems were delivered to the US Army's 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery in Hawaii in October 2006.
"The M777 ultralightweight field howitzer will replace the existing inventory of M198 155mm towed howitzers."

The M777 will be the artillery system for the Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT). The systems fitted with the digital fire control system are designated M777A1, and those with the software update which allows the firing of the Excalibur projectile, M777A2. M777A2 received full material release in July 2007, clearing the upgrade for fielding. All M777A1 systems will be upgraded to the A2 standard.

The M777 was deployed by the US Army and Marine Corps to Afghanistan in December 2007 and to Iraq in 2008.

The Excalibur projectile was first deployed in Afghanistan in March 2008.

By August 2008, over 400 systems had been delivered to the US Army and USMC.

In April 2008, BAE Systems received an order for an additional 87 M777 systems for the US Army and USMC. Deliveries are scheduled from 2010. In August 2008, a further 43 systems were ordered.

In December 2005, the first four of six M777 systems were supplied by the USMC to the Canadian Army, under a foreign military sales (FMS) contract. The systems were deployed to Afghanistan in February 2006. A further six systems have been ordered and are in service. In June 2008, Canada requested a further 25 systems, a total of 37.

In July 2008, Australia requested the foreign military sale of 57 M77 howitzers.

BAE Systems has developed a mobile version, the M777 Portee, which is mounted on a purpose-built 8x6 Supacat vehicle. The vehicle was first shown at Eurosatory in June 2006.
"The construction of the M777 makes extensive use of titanium and titanium castings."

The M777 has been developed by BAE Systems Land Systems (RO Defence, formerly the Armaments Group of Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd) at Barrow-in-Furness. United Defense LP of Pascagoula, Mississippi is responsible for final assembly, test and delivery of production systems for the US.

In July 2004, the M777 successfully completed a series of airlift tests with the US Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. The M777 was carried as an external load for a distance of 69nm.

The M777 is normally operated by a crew of eight men but can be operated with a reduced detachment of five.

Design

The construction of the M777 makes extensive use of titanium and titanium castings, enabling a weight reduction of 3,175kg (7,000lb) compared to the M198 howitzer which it replaces in the US Army and USMC inventory. The titanium is supplied by RTI International metals of Niles, Ohio.

Armament

The M777 matches the firepower of current generation 155mm towed systems at less than half the weight. The Howitzer is equipped with a 39-calibre barrel. The muzzle velocity (at Charge 8 super) is 827m/s.

The maximum firing range is 24.7km with unassisted rounds and 30km with rocket-assisted rounds. The M777A2 will fire the Raytheon / Bofors XM982 Excalibur GPS / Inertial Navigation-guided extended-range 155mm projectiles using the Modular Artillery Charge Systems (MACS). Excalibur has a maximum range of 40km and accuracy of 10m.

First firing trials of the M777A1 with Excalibur took place in August 2003. First production rounds were delivered in September 2006. Excalibur successfully completed limited user test in March 2007. It was first fielded in Iraq in May 2007 and in Afghanistan in February 2008.

The M777 is able to deliver up to five rounds a minute under intense firing conditions and is able to provide a sustained rate of fire of two rounds a minute.

Fire control

The LRIP systems employ an optical sighting system for direct and indirect firing by day or night. Full production systems will be fitted with the General Dynamics Armament Systems Towed Artillery Digitisation (TAD) system. LRIP systems will be retrofitted with TAD.
"The M777 is able to deliver up to five rounds a minute."

The TAD digital fire control system provides onboard ballistic computation, navigation, pointing and self-location, providing greater accuracy and faster reaction times. The TAD system also includes a laser ignition system, electric drives for the howitzer's traverse and elevation and a powered projectile rammer.
Mobility

The M777 has a production weight of 3,745kg and can be transported by helicopter, transporter aircraft and ship. The howitzer can be towed by an air-braked 4x4 vehicle greater than 2.5t.

The hydrostrut suspension system is provided by Horstman Defence Systems of the UK. The maximum towed road speed is 88km per hour and the towed cross-country speed is 50km per hour. The load on the towing eye is rated at 60kg. The towing ground clearance is up to 660mm.

Dude do you homework your words seems to be very negaitve .. Pak & Turk armies are small? lolz wat u smoking they are one of the biggest armies of the world in numbers i don't know about Turks but i know Pak army is. Second you said and seem to underline > M-777 is used my the most advance and big countires like the above mentioned then adding India in for your ego lolz wat a joke plzz do some home work boss and there is no reason to show fake pride here stick to the topic .

Whats the difference between A5, A6 Paladin and Kawest

I think it has to do with the loading of the weapons , the newer ones are obviously faster and also their communications are all done via
secure encrypted means so these can't be intercepted

I don't know but I also recall reading that the Paladin's also are capable of launching a tactical Nuke strike

Proof of nuclear weapon launch from artillery , I am positive I have see Paladin images launching these tactical nukes

We need to aim to develop systems like Crusedor

and yes indians dont really need it.

Looks like you guys are in need of some serious gunner **** here. All missions shot with the M777 howitzer. It's a seriously fine weapon that gives us everything the M198 did and is considerably lighter as the M198 was originally intended to be.

1-321 AFAR in Afghanistan-

Here the same unit is responding to incoming fire-

Here's A Battery 1st Battalion 10th Marines shooting in Helmand-

I love this one next one. It's a training mission for self-defense direct fire using HE with a mechanical time/superquick fuze set at muzzle action. Approx. 2.2 seconds out of the barrel it detonates-

I saved the best for last. Here's a marine unit at 29 Palms, California at the end of an exercise expending all ammo. This crew TOTALLY gets it on:cool:-

Thanks.:usflag:

The main & first factor to judge an army by its size is its active troops, not by adding the reserve number of troops.

If you wish to add reserve, buddy then our population is 170M+, thus very capable enough to raise a very large reserve army if need arises.

And this not by your estimate top ten army, is pain in the arse of the so called largest mighty IA.

So next time, make a sane observation.

Turkish army & PA are SMALL, are you drunk SIR?, i guess indian drinks are more intoxicting!!! you aught to drink some imported stuff!! haha

.
@Growler;671526]What different league ? the thing is you dont know squat about artillery systems and you are just bragging since India has bought this system it is all of sudden the out of this world alien technology that only greatest army in the world super shkti bharat army will possess. MOD EDIT

So, in ur superior opinion "Panter Howitzer" is of same leuge as "M777 howitzer"? What more i should say.

I have said small and you have taken it as technologically inferior, shows that u need an eye checkup.

Also, in ur opinion Turkish and Pakistani army is superior to US Army and Indian Army?:rofl: This explains all.

abbayyy aaa..
When india has no more of these 600 million slum dogs only then you have the right to compare it with modern country like Turkey.

Slum dog?? If i talk about Pakistani economy, poverty or hunger it will be a wastage of time, whole world knows the truth.

OK i accept that Pakistan is most developed and richest country in whole planet earth, happy.
:bunny:

So? A-5Q are battle proven SU-30MKI is not so we can agree to your analogy that battle proven A-5 is better then Su-30MKI! haha i guess i am just being Indian.[/quote]

I have talked about the M777 is battle proven that is 100% fact. But in your superior judgment USA's technologies = Turkish technology. In your superior judgment a time tested US product = a untested Turkish product, need i say more.

Then you reached peak of your IQ and concluded that Su 30 MKI made by India-Russia.

Russia a country with decades of experience, technologies, knowledge, man power and infrastructure of making superior fighter aircraft is "Zero".

Even newest and mightiest super power ever China uses Russian plane but Russia is "Zero" since i dared to talk about world most advance technological super power "Turkey" with decades of experience in military supplies.

Get well soon mamu.

.
Turkey a small army ?? Buddy, Turkey can very easily make Indian army suffer, and suffer very badly. Plus, I believe i don't have to tell about the PA.

And if these two small armies get combined together, then you know well what they can do to the mighty IA.

So next time, don't rant without substance.

@taimikhan

I always thinks u as expert in land systems and u are getting swept away by emotions.

If aliens joins hands with nepal then nepal can take over USA kind of stuff.

I have stated in my post that "Panter Howitzer" is used by small armies, isn't it true?

If Panter Howitzer is best and most advance in the world then the why armies around the world is not opting for it.

BTW, Turkey and India are also good friends and Turkey is not saying no to Indian army, but we want best in the world.

Once again, do you know anything about the Turkish Armed Forces ?? Its the 2nd largest standing Army in the NATO, and definitely among the top ten, and still you are calling it a small army.

The artillery gun is not used by small armies or army, it is being used by one of the major army in the world and if inducted in Pakistan Army, make it armies.

Artillery guns are not made for others, rather primary mission is for fulfilling the manufacturing countries own requirements.

Everyone knows the G5 & G6 series SP howitzers are great guns, but do you know how many armies are using them, and what is the caliber of those armies, even the gun is available for export to everyone, yet very few selected, small armies are using them. Its doesn't means there is any problem with the gun, there are other factors involved.

And do you know with whose collaboration the Panter was made and improved considerably by the Turkish themselves. Yeah, you guessed right, it was made in collaboration with the Singaporean company, same one whose one model is competing in the IA artillery gun procurement competition, so if this Panter is such a bad gun, why is the IA even allowing the Pegasus to compete becoz am sure nearly identical or very much similar technology is being used in the Pegasus and Panter (derived from FH-2000 by ST Kinetics), who helped the Turkish in making this gun.

Many times politics and other factors play the role in selection of such defence procurements, which i hope you know.

And next time, don't call Turkey or Pakistan small armies, out of the 180+ nations, both come in the top ten, which certainly doesn't makes them small armies.

And do read about the Panter Howitzer and see what plus points it has, making it into one very good platform compared to many other systems in the market.

Best & most advance doesn't means it has to be bought by everyone on the planet.

M777 is best in its own category, but its used by just some, small and big armies both, G6 is itself a great SP system, but its used by just some and small armies. Chinese products are not given much weight, but their guns beat the best western products and were bought by the Kuwaiti and KSA armed forces. Similarly, Panter Howitzer is itself a good gun in its category, thus being brought into service by one of the good and large army, and hopefully by Pakistan in future also if it fulfills the criteria.

.
@Veer

Where did you read that Turkey & Pakistan have a small army ? and What was your criterias, While You were implying that M-777 is much better than T-155 Panter in your previous posts ?

Firing capabilities per minute ?
Range ?
Mobility?
Effectiveness?
Calibre ?
Munition?

Time to prove your claims now...

If a system was being tested in real battfields environments, It means that It is the best of the World and Not have any rival ? If you keep approaching the events with this menthality, You should not develop anything or should not order any different system than USA has developed and tested in battlefields indeed...

"Best" never means that It is the most exported system in World. In current situation of World defence Markets, Many agreements have been signing cause of politic reasons...

Small Weapon systems of a Small Army... :)
