ISLAMABAD: Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David Ranz officially handed over eleven armoured personnel vehicles (APVs) worth over 280 million rupees here Wednesday to the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICTP), the Frontier Constabulary and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police.

According to US embassy, Islamabad the delivery underscores the US government’s commitment to working with Pakistan to improve security for the Pakistani people. Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, ICTP Inspector General of Police Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, Frontier Constabulary Commandant Liaqat Ali Khan, and KP Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan attended the event.

Ranz said, “The Pakistani police make sacrifices every day to keep their communities safe. Both in the United States and Pakistan, we depend on the police to protect our people, and we will continue to stand together with the people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and in our commitment to security and rule of law in Pakistan.”

American company Lenco built the vehicles, which are able to maneuver in remote and difficult terrains, helping civilian security forces prevent and respond to crime, terrorism, and militancy.

APVs are critical in improving police operational capacity and saving officers’ lives as they respond to threats from armed groups, including terrorists, militants, and narco-traffickers. Across Pakistan, these groups target police officers. According to the National Police Bureau, almost 6,500 police died in the line of duty in Pakistan.

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, which funded the acquisition of the APVs, works in more than 90 countries to help combat crime and corruption; counter the narcotics trade; improve police institutions; and promote court systems that are fair and accountable.

Our incompetent government is doing zilch for the protection of LEAs. Even if the US is doing this with strings attached, it's still going to save lives. They've been providing BPJs, Helmets, Training and now APCs, something that's the responsibility of the government. It's a goodwill gesture to help improve US image nothing more.

And to those saying Pakistan can produce better vehicles than the ones provided, Yes! we can. But who is going to finance their purchase? Allah? No. So please for once think sensibly and be thankful for what's provided. And No, these vehicles aren't bugged, the minds of politicians and diplomats are bugged which is the reason why we have to rely on a country thousands of miles away for basic protection.

Yes agreed whatever we get we should get is for the safety of our LEAs and troops.

But current relation with USA is not very good and history shows us anything from USA is always with some strings/demands. what we Pakistanis are concerned are, what if as usual, after receiving few items like this pakistan again quieting accept all the demands and we go back to zero after after all the bravado statements and warning. We are already seen as $$$ hungry people, will be very shameful, disgraceful and no seriousness towards Pakistan and its Sovereignty.

its a very big carrot
The stick that follows will be as big. It also does not come close to paying the funds they withheld, this is probably either surplus or something to keep the company going while other orders are looked for.

Terrorism in Pakistan will never end if it was used as a caliber to reward..enough corrupt politicians and black sheeps in PA minting money from terrorism..
