US Gives Over 100 Military Vehicles to Philippines

Accept the gift with smile. Milk the Americans for all its worth.

Sarap na sarap talaga ang gatas nga Amerikana...hahahahaha

;)

The Philippines is a developing country, they can afford only so much given the proportionality of national defense expenditure to national budget systems. Comparing to the region, these 100 or so units is significant. To the philippines this is a capability upgrade, not to mention delivery mechanism that will increase lethal power of their Army divisions to carry out objectives in their regional aspects.

The concept here is capability upgrade. In context to the regional security risks and reality challenges for the Philippine Armed Forces.

Be objective.[/QUOTE

Well its not totally free we paid for the refurbishing and transport

PH defense spending is small? Are you kidding me? Yes, its defense spending is much smaller than US, China or Japan, but meanwhile it is also bigger than a long list of developing countries. Lets make a quick comparison among PH and other Asian countries.
- Myanmar's defense spending is 70% of PH spending, but Myanmar has 569 tanks and 108 self-propelled guns
- Bangladesh's defense spending is 54% of PH spending, but Bangladesh has 680 tanks and 18 SPGs
- Look at Philippines! Although much higher military spending than Myanmar or Bangladesh, PH only has 45 tanks and zero SPGs.

God knows how the PH generals are wasting the money from the PH people!!

Its not just 'corruption' , but also the support costs. The Philippine Armed Forces also has generous family support package , which includes health, educational, and housing compartmentalization. That explains the support costs. While corruption is a real issue in the Philippine Military, these support costs have to be taken into consideration.

sounds like Myanmar or Bangladesh Armed Forces has no "support costs"

. . .
Hope the PH people could accept you explanation that "support costs" is the most critical point that resulted in the "primitive" equipment of the PH Armed Forces. @Zero_wing do you agree?

The Philippines has a relatively small defense spending, tho. They spend less than 1.2% on defense. In fact given their economic size (nearly $400 Billion GDP) , and with a population of over 105 million, they should have a defense budget of 2%, at least.

At defense spending of 1.2 pc, they can only afford modest utility acquisition and the rest support and maintenance cost of their current forces. If they wish to satisfy maintenance cost and also have a healthy acquisition goal, they should raise their defense spending to at least 2%.

Come on, Philippines even could not handle the current spending size well, needless to say to make it doubled. The PH generals and their families will feel grateful to your great idea!

@Zero_wing , some one asks you to pay more taxes to your government to feed the generals and their families!

Philippine doesnt have any missile system till today, doesnt have any air Defense radar, doesnt have modern warship, doesnt have jet fighter (until recently F/A 50),

Basically i found Ph doesnt have willingness to protect themselves even after territorial disputes with china emerges, they still doing it with old way.

Even Philippine doesn't have a modern military force, China never active attack Philippine since past years ... we r so peaceful ! But they already killed many foreign fishmen, so brave !

Look at the chinese imperialist arrogantly posting again your post is trolling

Considering the versatility of the M113, I guess acquiring more M113s is a good start, though it would be idea for us to phase out those FV101, cannibalize the turrets and install it on M113s or at least on Simba APCs.

Anyways, an M113 with mounted ATGM on top is a good choice for anti-armor roles, even though the NPA, MNLF/BIFF/MILF and other armed groups don't posses any significant armor assets.

I see this as opportunity for Indonesia to cooperate with PH and further develop our defence industry, by reaching friendly and prospective defence export market, such as Philippines. We know PH have the money, but spending those on expensive, new, US or European weapons will drain their budget. We have the advantages to support PH on supplying affordable and reliable weapons system. SSV & NC-212i is a good start.

Yes far more better than chinese trash gear

It is a step, a much needed upgrade for the Philippine Army and Marine Corp.

This is actually a big step, you never know how good is a M113 until you are on one. God, it bring me back the good old days when I first trained with my 19C MOS....You need to qualified for M113 before you can drive a Bradley....(although today it's not a requirement anymore)....
