US Gives 'Leftover' Arms To Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The United States has handed over the serviceable weapons, ammunitions and other sophisticated military equipment to Pakistan that was being used by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops in Afghanistan.

“A complete list of all the reusable military equipment was provided to Pakistan, from which whatever was deemed necessary and was required by the armed forces was selected by the defence ministry. Pentagon was accordingly informed about it,” sources in the ministry said on the condition of anonymity

They added that a majority of the equipment selected from the list has already been handed over to Pakistan. After the announcement of the withdrawal of ISAF forces from Afghanistan, Pentagon decided to give military equipment to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“However, a major chunk of the military equipment that includes sophisticated weapons is being moved to Jordan,” the sources said.

As far as I remember, US's main concern with respect to the arms in Afghanistan was that they could not move the cache through air, and decided to sell them to Pakistan. To move it all to Jordan by road they'd have to cross Iran, Iraq/Syria/Turkey.

When that Trash includes MRAP, Bushmaster Carbines, ACOG, NVG etc... That's not trash, that's treasure. Besides it would have cost them an arm an a leg to transfer the arms via air drop to the nearest friendly base, leaving them in Afghanistan is a no, no based on their past experience with the Afghan Local Police scandal.

So Pakistan was the next best bet. Now strategically this has great importance, because GEN III and GENIII+ are DOD protected assets and require senate approval prior to hand over and EU Certificate, in this case this was speed balled and I for one want to thank American and the American people for some much needed hardware.

For the rest, haters gonna hate and gators gonna gait.
