Drone kills 2 in North Waziristan

MIRANSHAH: A US drone strike targeting a militant compound killed at least two suspected insurgents in the tribal region near the Afghan border on Friday, officials said.

The strike took place in the Anghar area, 10 kilometres south of Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan tribal region. "A US drone fired two missiles on a militant compound, killing two suspected militants and wounding two others," a senior security official told AFP. Another security official also confirmed the attack and casualties that took place after midnight.

The identities of those killed in the strike were not immediately known but they appeared to be of Central Asian origin, the official said. A third security official in Miranshah said two Taliban fighters were wounded in the fresh attack and were identified as "Punjabi Taliban".

"One of them, Aslam alias Yaseen, is linked with attacks on Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi and another attack on (the) naval base in Karachi," the security official told AFP.

In May 2011, a group of heavily armed militants besieged Pakistan Navy air base in Karachi, destroying two US-made P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft, an attack that took 17 hours to repel and left 10 military personnel dead. That assault came three weeks after US special forces killed Osama bin Laden in the garrison town of Abbottabad, and was the deadliest on a base since the army headquarters was attacked in October 2009.

Last week a US drone attack on a seminary linked to the feared Haqqani militant network in Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed at least six people. The attack, which militant sources said killed the Haqqanis' spiritual leader along with five others, was extremely unusual in that it was mounted outside Pakistan's tribal areas on the Afghan border.

Militant involved in GHQ attack injured in drone attack

November 29, 2013

PESHAWAR: Two militants, including an accused linked with attack on Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi, were also injured in the US drone attack that targeted a compound in Miranshah town of North Waziristan.

According to sources, Aslam alias Yaseen is linked with attacks on General Headquarters (GHQ) and another attack on the naval base in Karachi.

The sources further said that three militants were killed in the drone strike. Two militants were from Punjab.

They said that the injured militants have been taken to hospital. The militants were fighting in Afghanistan, the sources claimed.

The militants were living in the attacked compound for four months, the sources added.

but I am puzzled that GHQ attackers were $hitting few miles from Army base there, and we have no SSG officer to spare so these be-ghairat terrorists could be sent to hell.

Secondly, its not a stunt and aims at saving people of Pakistan. PTI and JI are rather facing criticism by dollar-suckers and media is defaming them. This act has a political cost instead of political gain but on principle, this is the right hing to do. Even if somebody is terrorist, it must be law-enforcement agencies of Pakistan who handle them and NATO need to beef our ability up instead of invading and killing "suspected militants" but that is a different subject.
