US donates communication equipment to NWFP police
ISLAMABAD, Apr 7 (APP): The United States donated communication equipment worth dollars 130,000 to law enforcing agencies of NWFP to improve their coordination. U.S. Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs David Johnson who visited Peshawar on Wednesday, handed over the equipment to NWFP police at a simple ceremony held there.

Deputy Chief of US Mission Gerald Feierstein was also present on this occasion.

The equipment, valued at Rs. 10.9 million ($130,000), will permit law enforcement professionals to coordinate their efforts to protect the people.

Assistant Secretary Johnson, who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan, handed over part of the donation which includes 41 vehicle radio systems, 200 hand-held wireless radios, and two radio repeaters to NWFP Additional Inspector General of Police Abdul Majeed.

In his brief remarks on this occasion David Johson said, “This latest installment of equipment underscores the United States’ ongoing commitment to support Pakistan’s police.”

“We are standing by Pakistan in the face of terrorist attacks,” he added.

The United States provided civilian law enforcement assistance amounting to rs. 4.21 billion ($49.5 million) through equipment, training, and refurbishment of police facilities.
