10% controlled by the taliban, with 20% contested between insurgents and government forces, so the title is technically correct.

I don't know if I much trust these figures, as a majority of Afghans still live in rural environments, where the government has little to zero control.

Technically, what would be correct to say is that in Afghanistan, US and US-backed Afghan puppet govt has control over not more than 1/3 of Afghanistan.
