US citizen convicted for lying about Pakistan travel
March 27, 2013
washington - A US national was convicted by a New York jury for hiding information from the federal authorities that he travelled to Pakistan to join a terrorist group. Abdel Hameed Shehadeh faces a maximum sentence of 21 years imprisonment. The date of his sentencing has not been announced yet.

According to court papers, Shehadeh travelled to Pakistan from New York on June 13, 2008 to join terrorist groups in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), but was denied entry into the country by Pakistani authorities.

On return, he told investigators from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) that he had travelled to Pakistan to visit a university.

Traveling to and from Pakistan is not a crime. Joining a terrorist group is, however.

Why is even a thread opened on this? The United States gives its citizens a lot of liberty to go travel the world, carry out business with allowed countries and live - study abroad. But when someone is going to go join the terrorists and become a threat to the US population, the law enforcement will arrest them and put them in the jail. That's not complex to understand. And it will be the same for India, Saudia or any other country.
What's the need to open a thread on this???? This is common law enforcement activity and their responsibility to keep its country and people safe from the killers who show no mercy or respect for human lives.
What are people going to do next? Open threads on American cop gave a Muslim a ticket because he was speeding???
The anti American sentiment has to stop. You guys get billions in aid and the American public wants Pakistan to become a modern, prosperous and economically stable country with tolerance for everyone.
Why so much scrutiny on everything that America does or everything that happens in America??? Please close this thread as it's useless.

Well arrest is correct, they should also try to deport him. Once citizen your country should come first. However 21 years for just trying is little harsh.

21 years for hiding information and for a wish to join terrorist organisation :D
Pretty costly deal ;)

You arrogant really arent you?

Look at the measely article, no evidence suggests he was joining a terror camp.

Your country set up Guantanomo Bay to detain prisoners and treat them harshly for nothing.

21 years for no evidence? It is common in the west when a Muslim commits a small crime (no crime in this case) he gets a lengthy sentence. The fools that rape in US or kill get about 10-15 years, and this bloke got 21 years?

The picture is of poor quality surely they could have got a pic taken by atleast a 12mp camera, for god's sake its 2013! This is why I dont OBL was true, those pictures from 2001 onwards were poor fair enough, but 12 years later for this chap its the same poor quality sh!t - this is what makes it totally unbelieveable!
