US attorney ‘requests travel ban’ on Hasina

Tribune Online Report It was revealed in a seminar in New York Hilton Midtown VIP room on October 12

A US attorney is seeking travel ban on Bangladesh government higher-ups including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, says the PR Newswire.

The attorney, Martin F McMahon, has sent out a letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry requesting to impose the travel ban. Home minister MK Alamgir’s name is also in the “ban list.”

It was revealed in a seminar in New York Hilton Midtown VIP room on October 12 organised by the Human Rights and Development for Bangladesh (HRDB).

Others in the list are: Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed, Mehdi Hasan of Dhaka Police Motijhil district and Pradip Das of Chittagong Patchlaish Police Station.

Mr McMahon claims that the individuals listed have all violated human rights. He asked that these “egregious violators be barred the privilege of entering the United States, in keeping with the United Nations Convention against Torture and the Immigration and Nationalization Act.”

According to Mr McMahon cases of human rights being violated by Hasina’s government include that of newspaper editor Mahmudur Rahman, reported by Amnesty International; “the police abduction” of Shukhoranjan Bali, a defence witness of “the controversial and discredited” International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), reported by Human Rights Watch; and the abduction and execution of Aminul Islam, a labour rights organizer, reported by Amnesty International.

Attorney McMahon also cited the “Mass murder” cases, including "the massacre" of at least dozens of protesters by the police on February 28. According to him the government has also violated human rights with Operation Shapla, which was launched in the early hours of May 6 at the capital’s Motijhil area.

PR Newswire, headquartered in Lower Manhattan, New York City, started in 1954 hired by companies to send text press releases to the media.

Earlier on June 27, Martin F McMahon lodged a complaint against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 other government high-ups in the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands for allegedly violating human rights.

The case implicated influential officials of the incumbent Bangladesh government for their alleged role in violating human rights and petitioned the ICC to investigate and prosecute those responsible.

Letter to Secretary Kerry Requesting to Impose Travel Ban on Certain Bangladeshi Individuals

October 12, 2013 5:00 PM EDT

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Human Rights and Development for Bangladesh (HRDB) today organized a seminar at the New York Hilton Midtown VIP room that evaluated the performance of the Bangladesh Government led by Sheikh Hasina.

Taking part in the discussion US attorney Martin F. McMahon stated that Bangladesh's democracy is in crisis under the pressure of state brutality and human rights violations. In response to these human rights violations, a submission has been made to the International Criminal Court (ICC) on June 27, 2013 in Washington, DC. It implicates members of the Bangladesh government and state security in crimes against humanity, petitioning the ICC to investigate and prosecute those responsible. Bangladesh became a state party to the ICC Treaty on March 23, 2010.

Identified violations include torture, forced disappearance, extrajudicial executions, and mass murder. Cases include that of newspaper editor Mahmudur Rahman, reported by Amnesty International; the police abduction of Shukhoranjan Bali, a defense witness of the controversial and discreditedInternational Crimes Tribunal (ICT), reported by Human Rights Watch; and the abduction and execution of Aminul Islam, a labour rights organizer, reported by Amnesty International. Mass murder cases include the massacre of at least dozens of protesters by police on February 28, 2013. Also crucial to mention is the massacre of Hefazat-e-Islam protesters in Dhaka on May 5 and 6.

Mr. McMahon informed that he wrote a letter to Secretary Kerry requesting a travel ban that implicates leaders, including the Prime Minister and Home Minister, and those who directly participated in violations including Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed, Mehdi Hasan of Dhaka Police Motijhil district and Pradip Das of Chittagong Patchlaish Police Station. Mr. McMahon asked that these egregious violators be barred the privilege of entering the United States, in keeping with the United Nations Convention against Torture and the Immigration and Nationalization Act.

Also present, Dr. M. Nakib Rahman stated that the Hasina government has crippled the economy by sponsoring corruption including the share market scam, Padma bridge corruption, Hall Mark scam, etc. The nation's garment workers face abuse and dire neglect, the key industry in textiles suffers. Dr. Abid Bahar told that Bangladesh is heading towards fascism under this government. Abu Samiha Sirajus Islam said that the Hasina government also violated religious rights.

@asad71 While we had known for quite some time about this matter, I have one question regarding Hasina's son, Joy.

It is said that he would work to ensure that the AL wins the upcoming elections. Given that he is a US citizen, is this allowed under Bangladeshi laws? I now often see him in political posters.

Who will dare to protest? He is the Crown Prince. He enjoys benefits of an Adviser to the PM. Moreover, as Sheikh's grandson he enjoys protocol and security. Actually the Sheikh Family Inc is having a good time -as long as it lasts.

He cant contest in election if he were US citizen. I heard he never applied for citizenship. He holds PR status.

No sir, his candidacy will be void if he accepted allegiance to a 2nd country. There are plenty of people including opposition to protest and challenge in the court.

Now US has to face the WRATH of soon to be the most powerful leader in this world Ms. Hasina!!!!!

. .
Lot of closet Awami fans are afraid that if Sazeeb Wazed Joy talks too much his criminal records will come out in public. But that will happen once Awami League no longer able to kill or torture journalists.

US did and does make exceptions in many case; if Joy's case will play out is matter of time and question and interest. Let's see self proclaim pundits here can figure out what that means? But Joy has gotten looted money from Bangladesh using shell companies and US agencies knows that very well. It would be useful for Bangladeshis Americans to write to their lawmakers about Sajeeb Wazed Joy, one of the genocidal criminal.

Something difficult for him to manage!!!

How so? Is he so delusional?

Lot of closet Awami fans are afraid that if Sazeeb Wazed Joy talks too much his criminal records will come out in public. But that will happen once Awami League no longer able to kill or torture journalists.

And how and when will that happen?

And since you live in the US, please do that.
