one word "sorry" worth 100million per month for US, this will save 100million for US troop supply per month

A Western reporter once wrote, Indians wanted to be assured of a Kargil victory and their frivolous media provided them this victory. Victims of your own makings, you dare not think other wise.

I wonder if an Indian would have got the leeway to bring off topic rants in a subject so sensitive to Pakistan. But hey, go ahead and rant.. Its expected of you..

First you had a problem with the acute wordings and now suddenly TOI has dawned upon you.

I am still staying with the actual wordings and look around in Pakistan.. Unlike you, Intelligent people in Pakistan are now able to decipher this statement for what it really is.. And there is a pretty interesting cartoon doing rounds around this.. Its in bad taste but not too far from truth..

If any body, it's you who needs some help in digesting this news, but then you are keen to digress,

Says the person who brought Kargil to the discussion about Pakistan's eternal search for a USA apology about Salala

none the less, guess what, the party that does matter feels the pain for apologising......now work on some other equation only to comfort your self.

Secretary Clinton's apology to Pakistan is a slap in the face

Now Fox News is a credible source too.. Eh? Go back and read some of their other articles about Pakistan

Good for US that they apologyze to Pakistan, didnt get why Pakistan is giving services to them free of cost? i mean Pakistan want peace in this region okay but why only pakistan pay for peace always? Pakistan is losing billions of $$ every years due to their war & wht compensation we get in return, few million dollars with a media hype.....WTF?

Are you sure they apologized? Wake up, they remind us where we belong and where they... But they actualy insult us more than before, no formal apology, no transit fee, no end to drones..

To hold United States for 7 months and ultimately get apology is itself a good achievement for a country like Pakistan. This belligerence of Pakistan will set precedence for any future negotiations with US.

The majority of the US media is calling it an apology, which is basically what it is, arguments over semantics aside - but of course that will never be enough for the Pakistan haters (Indians) and ultra-nationalists, and in some cases those in between as well.

Looks like most of the members on the forum kind of agree with the view of so called Pakistani haters, ultra nationalists and others. What really gets me though is the desperation even in some of pragmatic and non fan boy members such as your self to actually believe and make other people believe that this is truely an admission of guilt. To me this seems so much like an out of court settlement in the US for an injury case where the defendent pays some compensation with a clarification that the payment is a goodwill gesture and does not imply admission of guilt or liability.. Same is also reflected in the statement from clinton where it clearly states that mistakes were made on both sides and also indicates that Pakistan's foreign minister agrees to that fact.

Ji Amreeki saab, humnay toh apko kaab se maaf kardiya. Aur kitne humaray sipahi maray ge?

I don't think Clinton ever used the word 'Apology' anywhere. She cleverly couched the statement in semantics - without the word 'apology'.

Here's what she said:

"I offered our sincere condolences to the families of the Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives," Mrs Clinton said.

"Foreign Minister Khar and I acknowledged the mistakes that resulted in the loss of Pakistani military lives.

"We are sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military. We are committed to working closely with Pakistan and Afghanistan to prevent this from ever happening again."

No 'APOLOGY'? Just blabber.

And why didn't Obama apologize? Because elections are around the corner and he doesn't want to be seen as going soft on Pakistan.

But since both governments are desperate to open the routes due to various compulsions, clutching at straws is the order of the day. Unfortunately Pakistan has lost this round with the US of A. Never mind if they lost 24 soldiers and self respect by putting a spin on what Clinton said, which was far from an 'apology'.

Carry on....It was just a matter of time anyway. Vested interests in Pakistan were waiting with bated breath to lay their hands on those lucrative billions from the the US of A and the mass of stolen containers up for grabs where American goods are flooding the markets of Karachi! It's business as usual at last!

Bill Clinton once said, "It's the money, stupid!" Of course it is! Never mind the unending drone attacks and the soldiers who were purposely killed by NATO forces. It's all in the game, what?

Wonder why US waited so long for this? They could have done it long back and avoided all those extra costs incurred. May be, for them, better late than ever. It is a huge humiliation for US and a huge win for Pakistan hardliners.

Apology or Sorry or Regret, It is not a problem,

a) What happened to new rules of engagement?
b) What happened to the issue of drone attacks?
C) What happened to 5000$$?

CC: imran khan: yesterday you quoted some where 14 F-16s are going to come, I very well know the fact that it is not going to come at free of cost. .

Any way this development is good for both the countries.

:coffee: Make sure that this times its not gon'na hurt Pakistan, Damn! Wats going on?

The did offer this long time ago. it wasn't accepted. So they created economic conditions which would make such a stament good enough for pakistan.

eg: 50 % power shortage even though PAk has plenty of installed capacity, IMF putting the squeeze, low foreing exhange etc

Apology has a very specific connotation in diplomatic circles: It means that what happned was mistake and will not happen again.

Do you get that sense from Clintons statement? I don't.

Yes, given the adamant refusal to use the word 'sorry' at all.

After all, this could have been done months ago if there was no distinction between the two statements.

Public perception is a very big part of the whole issue.

Agreed, but is it also not a duty of the Government to protect her citizens from creation of perception to cater for different audiences when the sentences mean one thing and are translated as another? The message that has been conveyed means that the US regrets the deaths of soldiers but it is being passed on as an apology by our Government to fool the general public.

Drone issue is already resolve. No more signature strikes. Strikes only when accurate inoframtion is available and verified by both side. No more civilian casualty .
