US agrees to sell AH-1Z attack helicopters to Pakistan

I never said Pakistan won't acquire WZ-10 in my post. Whats the need of spending almost 700-800 Million when we can save it and spend it on better things.
The need is to get an understanding of the best the West has to offer.
It's similar to the Chinese buying only 24 Su-35.
The numbers are not big but the experience you get is what makes it worthwhile.

Sarcasm aside
you only go with things that you can get and have some previous experience of. So you get 18 F-16s rather 15s or 18s. And you go for 15 Cobras rather than Apaches.

43 includes spares, and armaments. 43 is not just for bare bone.

Sir

There is nothing similar in Cobras we got and AH-1Z other than glimpse of visual similarity. Different Body structure, different motor, different Avionics, different maintenance schedule etc
We are not china which can afford to spend 1 billion just to get know the western system while we can spend the same exact money and get ~90% equivalent performance wise twice the quantity and help develop an industry base.
This the way it should be to move ahead, what is should be called wrong.

By acquiring the AH-1Z and Hellfire II capability, Pakistan will enhance its ability to conduct operations in North Waziristan Agency, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), and other remote and mountainous areas in all-weather, day and night environments”.

As well as to be used against India when required. That's the actual reason for procuring these toys, less for ops against insurgents! That's just an excuse which has, as usual, taken the gullible Yanks for a jolly good ride!

And whatever happened to those 8 F-16s?

To the make the Yankies and Indian lobby happy we say insurgents.
The rest you can be sure what the actual target for those 1000 Hellfires will be.

It was needed thatswhy it was acquired.
On the other hand everyone understands that Pakistani requirement is not just for 15 helis, so there will be more inducted and might even come with in house assembly.
But first we need to have a very close look at the best there is in the market and for that we need to induct some.
Also keep in mind the time frames when can we induct and get operational the 90% equivalent systems?

Why don't we develop or co-develop our own helicopters. When will this purchasomanic and indigenophobic mentality of our planners end? We need to think and plan long term. Especially when we have nuclear option available, we should invest in indigenous development of our defence industry through local initiatives and joint-ventures wherever and and with whoever possible. If we start today, it will 1-2 decades but then we will be independent and a developed nation. Think Big...don't fall for everything that trickles through the fingers of uncle sam.
