Indians have been led by rather conciliatory leaders. Modi is a different kettle of fish. I have been hearing about non-state actors using the same tactics that Pak is using - don't send armies - send proxies. Pakistan already believes India sends proxies - at least that's what they have been feeding to their population. The whole situation can spiral out of control.

Feel sorry for the family of these soldiers but then those close to 100 civilians killed by occupational forces also need justice.

Modi's dug himself into a hole here. After 2 years of cultivating a strongman image, and telling the country that he could singlehandedly tame and humiliate Pakistan, he has this attack by Kashmiri freedom fighters during an extremely critical period. Now there're two paths Modi takes. Two directions India can go after this episode.

One is the commonly trodden path of shedding the 'rising shining superpower' image, toning down the Balochistan rhetoric, and go back to pretending to be the peaceful and helpless state which needs the international community's help against evil terrorist Pakistan.

The other is chest-thumping and escalation.

One will hurt Modi's image, the other will hurt the stability of the region. We'll see what Modi chooses.

Attacking pakistan is a stupid move..Pakistan can also inflict considerable damage on india; besides it unites pakistani people. Modi already made a blunder by mentioning balochistan.
India has all the resources to inflict severe losses on pakistan in other ways...the government shouldn't budge to the pressure of common people and act in haste.
However, I should say pakistani army made a mistake this time..timing is very wrong..they should have thought a little while before sending these jihadi mercenaries...the little attention which kashmiri people were getting would be completely gone with this..no one will dare to take their side now..india has a justification now.

Waiting for armed su 30 and mig 29 and jaguars and mig 21 and and and .........

A timely approach right before UNGA's session whereby Pakistan is all set to highlight the Indian atrocities however, I would have kept it secret until & unless the moment of speech as a surprise element for India.

Again denial from Pakistanis....

Freaking cowardly act!!

Well, what they(Pakistan) will do? At best (Jyada se Jyada) they will blackmail with the Bomb. Even drop it. That far they can go. What after that.? Many(Nearly 90%) Pakistan member's logic is that "Pakistan may be destroyed but Islam will survive and Hindus will be destroyed for ever"! If that's so then Pakistan's population must also be thinking same way. And if that's so then apart from war, what are the other option?

Can it? Sure. Will it? Never, the spineless and self interested political class will ensure that.

Sometimes Indians say the world doesn't care, sometimes they say the world's opinion on Kashmir doesn't matter, other times they saw if it did matter, they still couldn't do anything because India is this and that, and that and this, and....:blah:. Can you people make up your minds already?

Honestly though, with all the Indian state's propaganda about the '90s and their dedication to erasing the memory of the thousands of Kashmiris killed during the COIN ops of that era, they still couldn't stop people from supporting Kashmiris. Why would it stop now? Look at the figures. 80 Kashmiris killed, curfew and internet restrictions for 2 months, hundreds more blinded by pellet guns, and an increasingly apathetic Indian state and public. The death of 17 occupiers is barely anything in the face of what the Kashmiri people have experienced in the last 2 months.

Very well summarized!

Since Modi is backed mostly by Indian business community, I seriously doubt he'll go with chest-thumping escalation scenario.
