Indian poet and writer Javed Akhtar, who has been recently making controversial statements about Pakistan, has declared that the Urdu language doesn't belong to Pakistan, rather it is an Indian or Hindustani language.

His comments came while speaking about the importance of the language at an event to launch an Urdu poetry album, titled 'Shayarana - Sartaj' which he attended along with his wife Shabana Azmi, Hindustan Times reported.

During the ceremony, Akhtar said that Urdu does not belong to Pakistan or Egypt but to India. "This language did not come from outside, it is our own language, it is not spoken outside Hindustan," he said.

Akhtar added that Pakistan itself came into existence after partition from India, and that earlier it was only a part of India, so the Urdu language "wasn't spoken outside Hindustan".

The Indian songwriter said that Urdu is the local language of united India, but that Punjab played an important role in promoting and popularising it. "It is not correct to consider Urdu a Pakistani language," he reiterated.

“Punjab has a big contribution towards Urdu and it is the language of India! But why did you leave this language? Because of Partition? Because of Pakistan? Urdu should be given attention,” he said.

Commenting on Indians who believe Urdu is a language of Pakistan, he asked that if Pakistan declared all of Kashmir as a part of it, would they accept it? "Urdu language should be given importance, the new generation of India has forgotten the Urdu language. Today more focus is on English. We must speak in Hindi because it's our national language," he said.

Akhtar further said that it is wrong to link languages with religion as language is not related to religion but to regions. "Therefore, Urdu is not the language of any religion but of India," he explained.

. . . . .
So what? India is named after a fucking river in Pakistan😅

Atleast respect the river... Because it is one of the most valuable asset for mankind

I don't expect anything else from you.

Your entire country's name is after a river in Pakistan.

Also Urdu is a product of the same Islamic conquests that Hindus/Indians cope about 😂

"The earliest linguistic influences in the development of Urdu probably began with the Muslim conquest of Sindh in 711. The language started evolving from Farsi and Arabic contacts during the invasions of the Indian subcontinent by Persian and Turkic forces from the 11th century onward. Urdu developed more decisively during the Delhi Sultanate (1206--1526) and the Mughal Empire (1526--1858). When the Delhi Sultanate expanded south to the Deccan Plateau, the literary language was influenced by the languages spoken in the south, by Punjabi and Haryanvi, and by Sufi and court usage. The earliest verse dates to the 15th century, and the golden period of Urdu poetry was the 18th--19th centuries."

So what?

Indus is something we adore and can't be abandoned.

You need to look at yourself in minor when you name Gauri, Babur etc..... Basically, these do not belong to Pakistan.

You have named your country after a river belonging to your primary adversary which you cope about.

And secondly those names hold historical and religious significance to Pakistan and the geographical region. Unlike you we don't have a collective psychee of coping and seething about these people. Neither is the name of such significance to begin with, can easily be changed.

Well he is correct but Urdu is a very unique circumstance if you look up its origins, it is the product of Islamic conquests of Hindustan, so it is linked to religion inherently.

How does the Hindus river affect the rest of mankind? What are you even talking about?

Hindus river?

Does the river also have religion? Oh, common man, come out of such shite!

I'm only stating in a general way that everyone should respect the rivers. not confined to a particular river.
