Uproar in Sindh Assembly over asking question in English

The provincial assembly of Sindh on Friday witnessed uproar after Minister for Zakat and Ushr Dost Mohammad Rahimo was asked to read the question in English language, Geo News reported.

According to details, during question and answer session, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi asked Minister Dost Muhammad Rahimo to read question in English, which was opposed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members including provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon.

Members of treasury bench said that degrees of those who wanted to determine the abilities of a minister must be verified.

Remarks of ruling party members created uproar in the assembly.

Acting speaker Shehla Raza declared the demand as unlawful.

Following this, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Sunita Afzaal asked a question in English. Shehla Raza stopped her, saying that playing prank was not suitable all the time. She also instructed Sunita to ask question in Urdu.

Several lawmakers was of view that if the oath could be taken in Urdu, Sindhi and English language why could not question in English.

Later, Minister for Law Sikandar Mendhro’s constitutional briefing controlled the situation.
