L70 anti-aircraft guns
India’s Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has handed over first two upgraded L70 anti-aircraft guns to the Indian Army out of a total contract for 200 guns.
BEL had won an INR 575 crore (US$ 87 million) contract to upgrade the L70 guns with electrical servo drives, electro optical fire control systems and video tracking. The project is being executed with support of the Ordnance Factory Board.
The first two upgraded guns were rolled out ahead of the stipulated timeline of nine months, a BEL release said today.
Each Building block of the gun upgrade, processor and interface boards, power amplifiers, stabilized pedestal, high precision mechanical sub systems and fire control systems have been designed by BEL.
Mr Amol Newaskar, Director (Other Units), BEL and Mr Charan Singh, head of BEL’s Chennai unit were present at the flag off ceremony.
