Why?

If I wanted informed opinion on sexual violence, I will turn to the Hindu or other Western news outlets.

Not a forum populated with ego filled South Asian men who use horrific stories of women getting raped to score cheap jingoistic points.

I put those threads on ignore mode.

As I said, it is better to read and read comments from people who know what they are talking about.

Sure go to reputed newspapers for informed opinion .

No I am not.

Every single thread that I have participated before, have descended into name calling pretty quickly.

There is no condemnation that takes place. But blatant racism. I have posted many a times why the situation occurs. There are deep rooted cultural reasons for this.

I have posted, many a times detailing what is the cause, and what needs to be done. Even then all you get is white noise that consists of prejudice.

I would rather read commentary that is harsh, but at the same time on point, and what needs to be done.

So I read the Hindu, Kafila and other Indian Feminist writers.

Frankly, engaging in jingoistic pitched battles with keyboard warriors is not the best way to condemn brutal acts of violence.

The lack of decorum besmirches the tone of the incidents.

Who cares - this list applies to us(largely). Hint: Try opening a dirty thread(rape ) on Pakistan and see how far it goes.

Because one-upmaship on whose society is the worst to Women is not the answer, but a deeper introspection. I am sure a lot of those threads were started by Indians.

If they wanted to genuinely discuss issues, that is fine and vice versa.

But to me, the victims deserve more than their stories being used to score nationalist brownie points. It's one of the aspects of the 'izzat' culture we should be avoiding.

Tackling the problem is more important than India's 'Image'

I am not talking about image. I support it being reported in national media with the seriousness it deserves. The issue is whether each rape case requires a dedicated thread here on pdf.
We have stiky threads for other issues that pop up regularly may be this one needs a sticky.

Please update the banned topics list to include any topics related to Sri lanka and genocide.

I incorporate the following argument in support of my inclusion.

The topic is pointless, and known to create flame wars between two sides of vastly different views.

I find this is similar to we will obliterate the other side type topics.

Both sides have vastly different views, and there is very little chance for either side to agree on a common ground to produce healthy discussion.

Banning topics stop free speech, this is only done in third world countries and dictatorships like Saudi Arabia or racist apartheid states like Israel. In my opinion banning topics is childish and shows people do not want to face the truth.

Banning topics also reflects badly on the quality of the members of the forum, it shows they are too uncivilized and not smart enough to hold rational discussions.

I raised a valid argument which was consistent with the philosophy used in banning those other topics.

I don't think anything should be banned. Topics or members. Because by banning you are only acknowledging you inability to deal with either, which frankly does not show you (the one doing the banning) in very nice light.
