Fresh row on conversions, 'Hindus lured'

Sanjay Pandey, Lucknow, Dec 19, 2014, DHNS:
Cops rush to UP village after reports of tension

Reports of ‘conversion’ of scores of Hindus into Christianity through alleged ‘allurements’ triggered tension in some districts in Uttar Pradesh.
Police sources here said as many as 70 people, mostly from the scheduled and backward castes, had reportedly converted to Christianity in Baharaich district, about 200 kilometres from Lucknow.

Reports said a Christian outfit ‘lured’ these poor people of Kamalpuri village in the district into changing their faith and made them join a prayer meeting at a makeshift church.

A police team was rushed to the village after reports of tension following conversion and the matter is being investigated, police sources said adding that some villagers alleged that they were being pressurised to change their faith. One person has been taken into custody.

Report of alleged conversion also triggered tension in Gorakhpur district, about 275 kilometres from here. Hundreds of people came out to the streets and held demonstration against the alleged conversion of some Hindus into Christianity at Pipraich area on Wednesday evening.

The saffron outfits have warned that they will oppose any attempt to encourage conversion of Hindus.

“We will not tolerate if attempts are made to convert the Hindus by luring them,” said district Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) president Anand Shahi.

The HYV was floated by Mahant Adityanath, the firebrand BJP MP from Gorakhpur. Six persons were arrested for allegedly encouraging the conversion, police said. The state government has already sounded an alert after the recent ‘mass conversion’ of over 250 Muslims into Hinduism at Agra.

“The authorities have been directed to act swiftly in cases of conversion. While we cannot stop voluntary conversion, it must be ensured that no one was forced,” said a senior official here on Thursday.

Eight Mahadalits converted to Christianity in Bihar : Conversion Row, News - India Today

IANS New Delhi, December 20, 2014 | UPDATED 14:11 IST

Eight poor Mahadalits, including a woman, converted to Christianity in a village in Bihar's Munger district, an official said Saturday.

"It is a fact that eight of them converted to Christianity at Ratanpura village under Sangrampur block in Munger, about 180 km from here, a few days back," the official said.

The converts told a team of district officials, who visited the village to probe the case Friday following district magistrate Amrendra Prasad Singh's orders, that they had changed their religion to lead a life of honour and dignity, officials added.

Prakash Manjhi, one of the eight who converted, performed the last rites of his mother as per Christian rituals.

"Manjhi had buried his mother according to Christian rituals last week," said officials.

Manjhi and the others informed the officials that they were inspired by the head of a local mission school and priest Sukhlal Soren.

Singh told IANS over the telephone that Soren had made it clear to him that it was not a conversion.

"Soren has denied conversion and claimed that they have expressed faith in Jesus Christ. But I have asked two officials to inquire into the matter and they are likely to submit their report Saturday," Singh said.

A couple of days back, three of the dozen Hindus who converted to Christianity in two villages in Bhagalpur district returned to the Hindu fold after they were threatened with a social boycott.

Nearly a dozen poor Hindus, including women, were converted to Christianity at Barohiya village and Gangaldeh villages in Bhagalpur district, 200 km from here, early this week.

Three of those who converted to Christianity have returned to Hindu fold at a 'ghar wapasi' (returning home) ceremony by the VHP, a police official said.

VHP calls for anti-conversion law | Zee News
Last Updated: Saturday, December 20, 2014 - 18:32

Kolkata: Slamming the opposition for stalling parliament over the conversion row, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Praveen Togadia Saturday pressed for an anti-conversion law.

Addressing a mass meet here organised as part of the VHP`s golden jubilee celebrations, Togadia also attacked the Mamata Banerjee government for trying to woo the minorities at the cost of Hindus, and called for getting rid of Bangladeshi infiltrators.

"Those who are stalling parliament over the Agra issue are anti-nationals and anti-Hindus. If they are so much against conversion then why isn`t an anti-conversion law being passed," said Togadia.

Targeting Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Togadia said: "Mulayamji you are known for taking anti-national stand, but if you endeavour for an anti-conversion law we will support you".

While he dubbed Bangladeshi infiltrators as a security threat, Togadia demanded Indian citizenship for Bangladeshi Hindus who have been persecuted and driven out from the neighbouring country.

"There is an urgent need to drive away these Bangladeshi infiltrators whose number has gone past three crore now," he said and asked Mamata Banerjee not to discriminate against Hindus.

"Mamataji is wooing the minorities by calling for reservation and doling out honorarium to imams. I ask what wrong have the unemployed done; why are they not entitled for any grant?" he asked.

Speaking on the same lines, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat too called for an anti-conversion law.

"Everybody is now talking about conversion. If everybody is so much opposed to it then why is not a law passed to this effect," Bhagwat said and called on Hindus to unite for the sake of the country.

After Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat pitches for anti-conversion law | Zee News
By Deepak Nagpal | Last Updated: Saturday, December 20, 2014 - 16:35

New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday jumped into the religious conversion controversy, calling on those who oppose conversion to bring a law to ban it.

“Bring law against conversion in Parliament if you don't like conversion,” Bhagwat was quoted as saying by PTI.

The RSS chief said those opposing conversion of people from other religions to Hinduism should first stop the conversion of Hindus to other faiths.

“If you don't want to change into a Hindu, then you should not convert the Hindus too,” he said.

He however stressed that those who have got converted due to inducements or force, “we will bring them back (to Hinduism)”, as per ANI.

Bhagwat said the Hindu samaj was awakening and that they need not fear anyone.

“We (Hindus) have not infiltrated into India from anywhere else, this is our Hindu nation,” he stressed.

Referring to Pakistan, the RSS chief said Hindus there have not been allowed to live in peace. “Now see, is there peace in Pakistan?” he added.

Bhagwat's remarks came hours after BJP president Amit Shah stressed that the party was against forced conversions.

Shah too however today pitched for an anti-conversion law in the country.

"BJP is the only political party in the country that opposes forceful conversion and the so called secular political parties should come forward to support an anti-conversion legislation," he stated.

Parliament, especially the Rajya Sabha, has been stalled by the Opposition over recent incidents of religious conversions, allegedly carried out by Sangh-linked outfits.

The BJP has denied any role in such incidents.

VHP holds ‘ghar wapsi’ for 500 tribal Christians - The Times of India
Yagnesh Mehta,TNN | Dec 21, 2014, 12.27 AM IST

SURAT: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad claims to have brought 500 people from 100 Christian families back into the Hindu fold in a 'ghar wapsi' programme organized in the tribal Arnai village in Valsad on Saturday. The organizers said that they did not take any permission and did not violate any law.

The VHP had earlier organized a similar event in November at Barumal village in Valsad.

"A yagna was performed and participants were given pendants with an image of Lord Ram. They discarded the pendants of another faith. We did not lure any participant," said Valsad VHP secretary Ajit Solanki.

The participants were given a picture of Lord Ram and a Rudraksh necklace. They were sprinkled with Ganga water and took a bath at a spring. District collector Vikrant Pandey said that he has asked officials to inquire into the event and submit a report. "As per the law it is mandatory that a detailed procedure be followed for religious conversion. But to consider this event as conversion or not is yet to get clear," he said.

"There is no information about tension and details are being collected," said Superintendent of Police at Valsad Nipurna Toravane.

VHP ‘converts’ 30 more Christians in ‘ghar wapsi’ - The Times of India

PTI | Dec 21, 2014, 07.29 PM IST

ALAPPUZHA: Amidst raging controversy over conversion in the country, a batch of 30 people belonging to eight families of dalit Christians were "recoverted" to Hinduism under the auspices of Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the district on Sunday.

The ritual of "ghar wapsi" (homecoming), organized by district wing of VHP, was held at a local temple at Kanichanallor.

VHP leader Prathap G Padikkal, who arranged the functon, told PTI that the families "expressed their desire to come back to Hinduism" and VHP "only facilitated the return".

He said their ancestors had converted to Christianity some decades ago.

Another 150 families in the district have expressed their wish to embrace Hindusiam and VHP would arrange their "homecoming" also, he said.

VHP conducts ‘ghar vapasi’ in Valsad - The Hindu
December 21, 2014 19:30 IST

Continuing its ‘ghar wapasi’ drive, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad allegedly re-converted over a hundred adivasi Christians in Kaprada taluka of Valsad district on Saturday.

The outfit claimed that about 170 families had gathered for the drive to bring back “misled” people to the Hindu fold.

“First they all took a holy bath at a ‘kund’ [holy pond]. Then they worshipped Ram and Hanuman. A ‘yagnya’ was performed followed by religious sermons by our priests. A ‘tilak’ ceremony was held in the end to complete the ‘ghar vapasi’. We only reconnect willing people to their ancestors. This is not conversion,” Dharmendra Bhavani, chief of Dharm Prasar Vibhag of the VHP, told The Hindu.

He claimed that the outfit had received applications from adivasi Christians expressing the desire to become Hindu.

“The adivasis themselves felt that they had taken the wrong path by converting to Christianity. They themselves threw their rosaries in the fire,” Mr. Bhavani said.

The police, however, said that they had not verified the religion of the adivasi people.

“The VHP performed a yagnya and only three couples were sitting at the yagnya, not 100 people as is being claimed. They did a ‘katha’[religious discourse through storytelling] . It was part of their golden jubilee celebrations and had nothing to do with religion. We have not received any complaint of forcible conversion, but if we do, we will take action,” Nipuna Torwane, Superintendent of Police, Valsad told The Hindu.

Asked if the three adivasi couples who sat at the ‘yagnya’ were Christians, Ms. Torwane said, “They had Hindu names. We have not verified their religion.”

Meanwhile, the VHP plans to continue its ‘reconversion’ drive in parts of Gujarat, namely in Vyara in Tapi district where it will launch a drive among Koli Rajputs who are said to have converted to Islam. It will also target the border areas of Kutch and areas of Bhavnagar district.

“Our jubilee celebrations have nothing to do with the ‘ghar vapasi’ work. This is our ongoing activity. We expect to receive 1,000 applications till ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ [in September]. Our workers are meeting interested people,” Mr. Bhavani said.

The VHP’s alleged reconversion drive in Agra created a controversy recently. Similar drives were reported in Aligarh and Bihar.

VHP ‘reconverts’ over 200 Christian tribals - The Hindu
December 21, 2014 03:13 IST

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Saturday “reconverted” over 200 tribal Christians to Hinduism by holding rituals at Aranai village in Valsad district of the BJP-ruled Gujarat, claimed a local leader.

The VHP said the reconversion was “voluntary.” “As part of the ongoing ‘ghar vapsi’ programme, VHP on Saturday reconverted 225 people from Christian community and took them back into Hindu religion,” said Valsad district VHP chief Natu Patel.

He said VHP organised a ‘Maha Yagnya’ (ritual of the sacred fire) for “purification” of the tribals before taking them back in Hindu fold and also gave each of them a copy of Bhagavad Gita.

Another VHP worker, Ashok Sharma, said around 3,000 people gathered at the ‘ghar vapsi’ programme in Valsad on Saturday. — PTI

They were not hindus but dalits. They didn't convert but chose Christianity as religion.

Not family prayer.. conversion became issue. I do have problem with foreign funded organisation pumping billions into India to convert people. I want to know why are they doing it?

Because they believe it's a holy mission to spread the word of God as they understand it,they're in Romania to,mainly in poor villages ,just like in India. That being said, they're doing nothing illegal, they're not using violence and they're not undermining the fabric of the state by advocating secession.I find this propaganda in India against Christian missionarism,be it Evanghelical agressive one which i personally don't like, very wrong and insulting.

You've solved all the problems in India, have other religious minorities who unlike Christians used violence against the state, but the real problem is Christian missionarism and the 2-3% Christian minority.Gimme' me a break...

The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), is a rebel group that seeks the secession of Tripura, North-East India, and is a proscribed terrorist organization in India. Group activities have been described as Christian terrorists engaging in terrorist violence motivated by their Christian beliefs.[23][24] The NLFT includes in its aims the forced conversion of all tribespeople in Tripura to Christianity.[25] The NLFT says that it is fighting not only for the removal of Bengali immigrants from the tribal areas, "but also for the tribal areas of the state to become overtly Christian", and "has warned members of the tribal community that they may be attacked if they do not accept its Christian agenda".[26] The NLFT is listed as a terrorist organization in the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2002.[27] The state government contends that the Baptist Church of Tripura supplies arms and gives financial support to the NLFT.[28][29][30] Reports from the state government and Indian media describe activities such as the acquisition by the NLFT of explosives through the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura,[30] and threats of killing Hindus celebrating religious festivals.[31] Over 20 Hindus in Tripura were reported to have been killed by the NLFT from 1999 to 2001 for resisting forced conversion to Christianity.[32] According to Hindus in the area, there have also been forced conversions of tribal villagers to Christianity by armed NLFT militants.[32] These forcible conversions, sometimes including the use of "rape as a means of intimidation", have also been noted by academics outside of India.[33] In 2000, the NLFT broke into a temple and gunned down a popular Hindu preacher popularly known as Shanti Kali.

Nagaland is a Christian majority state in India. Many terrorist incidents have been documented there as a result of an insurgency against the government. This insurgency was originally led by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), who has indulged in terrorist activities varying from kidnapping, illegal drug trafficking, extortion, etc.[41] The group has committed religious violence, as a part of NSCN's described mission of forcibly converting the animist Naga to Christianity, which has been described by B. B. Kumar as Christian terrorism.[24] Other goals include the formation of a greater Nagaland. There are occasional reports of the NSCN using force to convert locals of neighboring states to Christianity.[42]

Terrorists in North-East India get support from America

North East do have very big problem but the level of violence is under control , Indian army is doing good work over there but its not correct to pin point towards United States for all this. Because that region do have a long history where trouble makers were given weapons which were used against the Indian nation. I think even Purulia arms drop case is somewhat linked with this problem .

VHP will take percentage of Hindus to 100 in India: Praveen Togadia | Zee News
Last Updated: Monday, December 22, 2014 - 01:01

Bhopal: A day after Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat made a strong pitch for Hindu awakening and described India as a nation of the Hindus, senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia on Sunday said that his assertion is like "gospel" for VHP.

Speaking at a convention here, Togadia asserted that the world was once inhabited by Hindus only, and that the right-wing organisation will make all efforts to increase the population of Hindus in India to 100 percent from 82 percent.

305430-togadiavhp100.jpg

"We will not tolerate the size of Hindu population to cut to half, we will not tolerate Hindus becoming a minority in the country," Togadia said addressing the function.

Reiterating VHP's opposition to 'Love Jihad', Togadia said it is a conspiracy against the Hindus and that his outfit wants to eradicated the social evil of caste from Hindu society.

The comments came close on the heels of the remark made by Bhagwat that those who were converted earlier could be allowed to go back to their traditional faith.

Bhagwat, in the Kolkata rally, had dared the Opposition to support the passage of the anti-conversion law to stop it all from happening.

He had also said those who were converted earlier could be allowed to go back to their traditional faith without using the much-criticised term 'ghar vapsi'.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday made it clear that if people are converting voluntarily then there should be no issue in it, but if force is being used then state government should take action.

My friend, American Baptish church which sponsors those christian terrorists is a cia front. Indian intelligence agencies already know this.

North East is hub of many agencies but still Indian forces are handling everything with a firm and NSA has adopted very well balanced policy.

Here its not about loving United states , i am trying to say that in international politics there are many different reasons but just pushing all the blame on United States for the troubles in North East would be incorrect. Sanctions were placed because of the Nuclear testing but we should not forget that because of those sanctions only , India as a nation faced that together and have achieved self reliance in many sectors but we should even not forget that its because of United states we signed 123 agreement and because of which we are able to construct more Nuclear reactors and after under IAEA safeguards and i hope that when President Obama will visit India in January and be Republic day Guest that time even agreements will be signed on Nuclear Liability Act from United States.

Relations between India and United states have reached to different level now and with the same United states , Indian companies will be working on many different projects such as naval guns, mine scattering anti-tank vehicles, unmanned aerial surveillance system, Javelin missiles, and aircraft landing system for carriers.

It's not only foreign funding even Indian Christians are helping the missionaries to harvest some pagan souls.

IMO, India should stop giving a damn for anything related to religions-any religion-Hinduism,Islam,Christianity,Sikhism,Jainism or whatever.

Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around!
