PESHAWAR: The cash-strapped University of Peshawar has issued a cry for help, warning that unless the federal and the provincial governments provide it with financial support, the varsity cannot deliver.
This was stated by University of Peshawar Vice Chancellor Asif Khan as he handed out laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop scheme. Around 220 laptops were distributed among masters in philosophy (MPhil) and doctorate in philosophy (PhD) students of different departments of the university.
He complained that the university had been serving students using its own resources, without financial support from the government.
He appreciated the federal government’s efforts for supporting students through different programmes such as the National Internship Programme, the laptop scheme, PM Reimbursement schemes and urged to federal and provincial government to financially support the university.
Adviser to the Prime Minister Engineer Ameer Muqam, who was the chief guest at the laptop distribution ceremony, urged students to focus on their studies at this stage in their careers. He assured the varsity’s administration that the federal government will support them. He said that in the upcoming budget, the federal government will support the University of Peshawar and will work to fulfil its requirements.
