You can believe what you hear. But I have met Kashmiri people who works in my company. Even though we don't discuss such things, as usual this question comes around and they will say no. I don't know why you can't believe, the one's fighting freedom are specific interest groups, in some districts of Kashmir.

India had peace with China for millennia when China had Buddhism. India started having issues as soon as communists took the long march. Hope Buddhists would make a comeback in China.

It is an indisputable fact that they rule their Xinjiang region with an iron fist and that young men aren't allowed to grow the islamic style stacheless big beard, the niqab/burka full body thing is banned, they can't even name their kids 'muhammad', their passports confiscated around ramadan so the uighur can't travel..
