The following is what went down with her during those 7 days:

1. Asifa used to regularly take horses for grazing in the forest near her house. A1 had met her multiple times in the forest and she often used to ask him the whereabouts of her horses. The same happened on Jan 10. He told her he will help her. Took her to a shed. Tied her up.
   
   
2. Thereafter A1 first drugged her and then raped her. A2, who was a friend and knew about the whole plan also “attempted to rape her” but “couldn’t”. Both A1 & A2 then took her to a temple and hid her under a table covering it with chatayis and darees (plastic & cotton mats).
   
   
   
3. They returned the next day with A3 - a J&K police official. A3 took along a strip of 10 sedatives with him. Met Asifa. Made her swallow 2 pills. Locked her up and left. Later that day A1 phoned a friend in Meerat and asked him to come to Kathua if he wanted to “satisfy his lust”
   
   
   
4. His friend (A4) reached Kathua at 6.00 am the next day. At 8.30 am, A1 went and forced 3 more sedatives down her throat (while she was still unconscious). By now her family and the police had started searching the forest for her so the accused couldn’t come back that day.
   
   
   
5. The next day A4 and A5 (the man responsible for the custody of the temple) went to Asifa. While A5 went to perform the temple rituals, A4 raped Asifa. Later that day A1 & A2 came back. A1 raped her again, gave her 3 more pills. And left.
   
   
   
6. The next day one of the accused informed A5 (the custodian of the temple) that Asifa had been gangraped. A5 said the time was “ripe” to kill her. A3 (the police official) asked them to wait. Said he wanted to rape her first before they killed her.
   
   
   
7. A3 raped her. A1 saw this and said now he needed to rape her again. So A1 raped her too. Then A3 put her head on his thigh and tried to apply force on her neck to kill her. He couldn’t.
   
   
   
8. A1 stepped in. Put both his knees on her back and tried to strangle her with her own chunni. He managed to do it. Just to make sure, he picked up a stone and hit her on the head. Twice.
   
   
   
9. This is what the charge sheet has revealed. I think it is important to understand why so many people are outraging against something that we think “happens everyday”. And I also think there should be nothing less than death for child rapists ESPECIALLY in cases like these.
   
   
   
10. Asifa’s family. They weren’t allowed to bury their daughter where they lived by the Hindus living around the area. Why? Asifa was a Muslim. Her rapists were Hindus.
    
    
    
    
    
    
11. They had to bury their daughter somewhere else. They were forced to move out of the village and are now living here.
