Neutrality means the status quo, and the status quo is beneficial to India. And no, the situation in the UNSC will not change. Even if India loses the support of the west, Russia will still support it and vice versa.

Don't be too sure about Russia.. they know that India is in the Western camp despite some figleafs of neutrality.. India buys weapons from Russia.. and thus there is some semblance of warm ties.. but watching the RT channels.. which are supposed to be Russian official mouthpieces.. the anti India slant is not hard to miss... Modi is the reason for the daylight between India and Russia...

Media always works both ways. Recently RT also published a bunch of pro-India op eds on Kashmir. Not to mention Russian state media outlets such as News.ru have confirmed that Russia supported India on Articel 370 in advance. Russia is also trying to get more Indian investments in its far east to balance out China. The Chennai-vladivostok Maritime corridor is an example of this.

Just read Andrew Korybko's articles. Although he is a very Indo-skeptic analyst, he has aknowledged that Russia has fully supported India on Kashmir.

Like I said, russia does have a lot of interests in India in areas other than millitary purchases, so I don't think Russia's South Asian foreign policy will see any major changes.

Russia may be neutral as it is aware about the failed attempt by china is not going to work out. Russia’s neutrality is more about China than support for Pakistan...If there will be a situation where India need support of Russia, Russia will be there for us.

That is true...I agree with you...And in the same way...like China changes its position in UN for Hafeez Sayeed vase for Pakistan too...So at the end of the day, India and Pakistan have to offer something substantial to accommodate any one from 5 UN members. That will ensure, status quo prevailed in UN for Kashmir issue and allow India time to accommodate the impact of 370 by the middle of 2020.

Those nations do not have any stake in Kashmir, nor do they have any kind of "all-weather" relationship with India. If relations between the West and China improve, then those members would quickly drop their neutral stances at the UNSC.

As for the impact of article 370, its naive to think that its effects would come in so soon, once communications are restored and curfews have been removed then its inevitable that mass unrest will happen.

As I said in my previous post, Indian generals and politicians dont go a day without demanding Azad Kashmir; Legally it is prohibited to even present the de-facto map of Kashmir.

Its rather presumptious to think Russia would back India if the West dropped India. Russian relations with India have primarily revolved around arms purchases more than anything; So when Pakistan recently started importing Russian arms, and India defames the Su-30 and starts importing Western arms what reason would they have to continue their support.

None of the 5 want India as a member for different reasons, just ask yourself that if Russia really loved India that much why they dont show it elsewhere, and why they continue selling weapons to Pakistan? They know full well that India will never get a seat, so they do lip service because they have gullible customers.

Overall, I agree with your statement....No one wants to share their power with more countries...They just take excuse of China. If tomorrow China agrees, someone else will come up with a new excuse. That is the game powerful countries always play with others.

Yes, and it opens up a lot more controversy. Like should other high population countries get a seat too, does Brazil get a set, do Africans get a seat etc.
