UN recognizes Crimea as occupied – for the first time

They have no friends... Only interests !
Just like Russia and China (or any great nation-state). Real-Politik.

I think, many in the West would be very surprised that about half of Ukraine want to reunite with Russia as we were one state and one people for almoust 1000 years. But who cares what people want? Western lust for power and world supremacy and domination on the planet - the only thing they care about.
If the argument is that Crimea was once part of the Russian Empire, then that doesn't bode well for countries like Poland, and the small baltic states. Fact is the Russian Empire had shrunk quite a bit from 1014 to 1918. The Soviet Union inhanced its zone of influence after WW2 (Warsaw pact countries) but lost all this again with the 1991collapse.
The ebb and flow of Russia's and other bordering states' boundaries can be followed on maps, year by year, from 1848 to 2015 here; http://omniatlas.com/maps/europe/20151007/

If I were to go by what was once the Netherlands, then Belgium and Luxembourg should be reunited immediately with the motherland.

If one day people of Luxembourg, Netherlands and Flanders, unite into the Great Netherlands of their own volition - nobody in Russia will protest against it. The desire of the nation to be reunited - completely natural process.

The Netherlands is not supporting Flemish seperatists. There are no little green men in Belgium. ;-)

Natural processes or not, we do all live within an agreed upon legal and political frameworks, and there are legitimate ways you achieve change (and if that takes longer then so be it)

If outside forces organized fascist coup in Belgium, expelled the president and started terror against the Flemish minority - then I think the Netherlands would take some measures.
In addition, the population of Eastern Ukraine much closer to Russia than the population of Flanders to the Netherlands. It is like Bavaria for Germany or province Zeeland for Netherlands.

What a joke ... Crimean people are happy ... They don't feel occupied and here is UN stupid declaration ...

UN is loosing its face by becoming a rubber stamp of US ...
Crimea is part of Russia and Yanks can do nothing about it. Yankee criminals are only good in bombing hospitals, weddings and torturing prisoners.

Look how happy residents of Crimea are:

And here is very interesting documentary on Crimea:

Crimea belongs to Russia...who cares what UN thinks.
obviously its just a resolution by the U.N, nothing binding.
You are right though Crimea now belongs to Russia since Russia already annexed it from Ukraine it's a fait accompli. Just like how Kashmir(Pakistani one) belongs to Pakistan who cares what India thinks? Similarly with Aksai Chin which China occupies who cares what India thinks and vice versa. Fait accompli.

It's true that Might makes right. I never disagree with that. In fact i'm not even against Russia using it's might to exert ts influence and carve out territories from its weaker neighbours, That's how geo politics works. I'm just surprise some cheerleaders here seem to claim Russia is holy and has done nothing wrong, yet if any western country tries to do anything even remotely similar they are the first to say the total opposite.

We should also take back Ireland. :enjoy:

Goes to show that power is everything. The same West that went into Iraq and Afghanistan along with the USA couldn't lift a finger when Russia annexed Crimea. Of course Russia is going to defend each and every interest like any other nation would. Russia cannot be blamed for anything. These are the same Western powers that tried to totally annihilate Russia during the Cold War. They failed and Russia is today a resurgent power. More recently, they tried to encircle Russia by Europeanizing its direct neighbors. Russia is taking everything it wants in front of our eyes by hook or by crook. Even better, with Trump in the White House everything is up for grabs anyway. The path to victory is without obstacles.
What are you even talking about? Seriously i don't understand how some of you Pakistanis(even those abroad in the west) even think at times. You say Western powers tried to annhilate Russia during the Cold war?lol
Russia never tried to do that as well right? Only the 'evil' West was fighting for influence and dominance , holy Russia was just defending itself and helping the world. LMAO:rofl: Too bad your home Country Pakistan and even China was our ally in bringing Russia down and breaking it down into pieces. So you should also blame your home country and China(both countries rightly considered the Soviet Union a far bigger threat to their existence back then). Since they helped the West in bringing Russia down.:enjoy: Don't worry i know you will never do that for obvious reasons. Only the west is good to badmouth.

More recently, they tried to encircle Russia by Europeanizing its direct neighbors. Russia is taking everything it wants in front of our eyes by hook or by crook. .
This is an even funnier statement. old boyyyyyy, you are funny.
So we Europeanized Russia neighbours(or whatever that means)? They were not European before isn't it? Guess they were Asians,Arabs or Pakistanis? So we forced them to be 'Europeanized' and to hate Russia isn't it?:D Your posts have made my day. Keep it up please.:-)

Crimea belongs to Russia...who cares what UN thinks.

Crimea was annexed by Russia in 1783, and separated from Russia in 1917,
as an independent entity within the USSR.
That is a mere 134 years it has been under Russian Rule.

USSR was created in 1922. Crimea was part of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic until 1954. In 1954 transferred to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic as a gift for the 300th anniversary of reunification with Russia. As part of the independent Ukraine - 1991-2014.

You brought in the thousend year history issue. ANd when I point out how flawed that is as argument, other 'reasons' emerge. Point still remains: the wrong means to a - perhaps in itself legitimate - end were chosen.

I merely pointed out that the historical processes do not always fall within the current administrative boundaries. Crimea was transferred to Ukrainian republic without a referendum, and returned to Russia after the referendum. Such is the will of the people.
Some countries may recognize this, some - not. Just as many countries do not recognize Kosovo's secession from Serbia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has paid attention to the fact that the UN Resolution "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)" passed by the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly also concerns the ban from compelling protected persons to serve in armed or auxiliary forces of occupying authorities.

"I want to emphasize, as it was not mentioned by our mass media, that the resolution claims a ban to compel protected persons to serve in armed or auxiliary forces of occupying authorities on the occupied territory," Klimkin said in parliament on November 18.

He also recalled that the resolution urges the occupying authorities to ensure the proper and unimpeded access of international human rights monitoring missions and human rights nongovernmental organizations to Crimea.

The minister said that Ukraine would continue working to ensure the adoption of the resolution by the UN General Assembly.

On November 15, the UN General Assembly committee voted to adopt a resolution on human rights in Crimea. A total of 73 states voted for the document, 23 voted against, and 76 abstained. Some 41 states were co-authors of the resolution.

For the first time the official documents of the UN recognize the Russian Federation as an occupying power and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as a temporarily occupied territory. In addition, the resolution confirmed the territorial integrity of Ukraine and reaffirmed the non-recognition of annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula.

The document also urges Russia to allow international human rights mechanisms, in particular the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, unimpeded access to Crimea in order to monitor human rights situation and asks theUnited Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a separate thematic report on the situation in the peninsula.

The approved resolution is an important diplomatic, political and legal mechanism through which Ukraine protects the rights of its citizens on the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.

The resolution is expected to be adopted at a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly in December 2016.

Is there any way?
It seems the US and its Allies have control on UN and Olympics and almost everything.

But Crimea was part of Russia, just given to Ukraine as a gift by Comrade Khrushchev, not even have asked Russian people.
It 's totally different from Hawaii, which US get rid of its king and put into its own pocket.
