UN ELECTS SAUDI ARABIA TO WOMEN’S RIGHTS COMMISSION

.
This simply proves that UN is an outdated organization which has no relevance in todays world. Next we will have NK heading nuclear disarmament effort.
The U.N is controlled by agendas, not by justice.
The more countries u have on ur side, the more power u have in the U.N, and u can pass w/e resolutions u want.
If I'll have more than 50% of power vote in the U.N, I'll recognize flying monkeys and declare war on them before they invade earth

It does sound to me like readers are simply supposed to know to substitute "Pakistan" for Israel in this post because criticism of the Pakistani people and state is so dangerous for Pakistanis. (French writers targeting the Catholic Church used a similar trick in the 18th century.) You know the difference because the facts and comments don't fit Jews and Israel but do fit Pakistan and its Muslims.

The pics don't tell you who is in the right or wrong, just as you can't make sense of a movie from a few frames in the middle. The reason why inflammatory stuff like this is circulated? So your state- or social-mandated prejudice fills in the blanks, rather than the facts and context of each situation.

It’s absurd,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, which publicized the story on Sunday. “

Saudi Arabia was elected via secret ballot in the UN Economic and Social Council to the 45-member UN Commission on the Status of Women last week.

Twelve other countries were also elected by the council in Geneva to serve for a four-year term, ending in 2022: Algeria, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Turkmenistan, Ecuador, Haiti and Nicaragua.

“It’s absurd,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, which publicized the story on Sunday. “Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief,” Neuer added.

“Saudi discrimination against women is gross and systematic in law and in practice. Every Saudi woman must have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions on her behalf, controlling a woman’s life from her birth until death. Saudi Arabia bans women from driving cars,” he continued. “Why did the UN choose the world’s leading promoter of gender inequality to sit on its gender equality commission?” Neuer said that seven of the 54 council states did not vote for Saudi Arabia, and that, based on his count, five of the 12 EU states on the council voted in favor of Saudi Arabia.

It received the least amount of votes out of all of the 13 newly approved members, he added.

The way it works is that each region will propose candidates and members from other regions
typically just vote yes for the proposed candidates, hoping their candidates
will be elected as well.

...Israel gives us—unlike the security establishments in many other countries, including Western ones—quick access to senior officials in the IDF, the Prison Service, and other security services. We have useful, productive and professional dialogue with them. We clarified with them the issue of shooting assailants who carry out terror attacks and we reached an unequivocal conclusion that there is no IDF order to shoot suspects to kill, as political officials tried to convince us. The rules of engagement haven't changed, and have actually been made stricter. It is true that individual soldiers have made the wrong decision at times and that there are many instances of outrageous behavior at border crossings—at times in complete violation of orders. We do not hesitate to report that to the IDF and we usually get a professional response. That is why we rejected the accusation, and there were immediately those who claimed we were covering up war crimes committed by the IDF, and that we were serving the Zionists.

The Red Cress was very familiar with the regime in South Africa during Apartheid, and we respond to anyone who makes the argument that Israel is an apartheid state: No, there is no apartheid here. There isn't a regime here that is based on the superiority of one race over another; there is no disenfranchisement of basic human rights based on so-called racial inferiority. What does exist here is a bloody national conflict, the most prominent and tragic feature being that it is decades long, and there is occupation. Not apartheid -

- Jacques De Maio, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation to Israel and the Palestinian Authority

So, now that Israel's place as a great example of human rights has been firmly established and independently testified to, we can get back to the subject topic: the absurdity of electing Saudi Arabia to the U.N.'s Women's Rights Commission.
