Ultimate Super Gun.

Yar if a giant and Complex thing such as a shuttle can survive earth re-entry there shouldn't be a Problem for a simple Dumb Pencil.

Of Course Special Materials would be needed to make it avoid it's melting upon re-entry.
Air resistance would mostly burn it up
And by the way the shuttle has a lot of stuff on it to protect it during reentry
And the projectile size would go against it

Space shuttles reduce their velocity as they enter the atmosphere. What we want is quite the reverse. But it wont be a big problem, as even if a little part of the projectile survives, it can do big damage.
what about the guidance system on it will they survive

It would be hard to do, but it is possible. The guidance system will be in core of the projectile. Just like in space shuttle, not all parts get heated to very high temp. Some parts would be sufficiently cold. Navigation can be done by rocket boosters (liquid).

Installing the guidance system in projectile in orbit is something even US can't do right now. Pre-installed guidance system wont work after getting thrown out of the gun. So no use of gun still!!

But yeah, if we can put some satellite in orbit with those pencil thingies, it would be a killer weapon..

Yar now i am going to repeat my Previously Failed Theory.

Does the Pencils really need a Guidance System.Now don't say that a few dimension thing because the targets on earth will be quite large.

So Just get the coordinate,Adjust the angle and Bang.

I mean i see no reason why even the Pencil needs a Guidance System in the first Place.

And how can you say that Guidance system can not be installed in Space??I mean just move the Pencils into Space Station.The Guidance system would be just sticked in the middle of Pencil fins would be connected etc.I mean they can assemble an entire Space Station so what would be the big technical difficulties in just putting a Guidance system.

The pencil would be thrown out of satellite moving at tens of thousands of km/hr. It would enter the atm, and parts of it would be vaporized. Do you think its course would remain constant? With so many variables involved,

How much money do you want to spend on busting a bunker. Think about the money spent on each hour work on a space station. And thats just a part of it. In space station, the astronauts can stay for days, even for minor repairs. Many other problems would be there.

Well yar Money.Yes it would a factor.But i mean at least technology would not Prohibit it.I mean we can reduce the time by increasing the user friendliness and even using some kind of Robot to do the assembling.I mean After all it's just assembly.

Its just an assembly, but assembly of precision guided munition. Than too, those munition will have to stand extremely harsh condition, compared to our usual guided munition. Regular missiles etc need a human touch. Don't you think a munition like this would require more?

Yar you maybe right but in Principal this idea would work.

Now the issues you are saying they are more of a management,money and Political will issues.They can be sorted.

I guess so from this lengthy at least there is some thing useful has been discovered.

The only idea i have is this. A cannon can launch a missile to few hundred m/s. This would reduce the burden on missile propulsion system, enhancing both range and speed.

hmmm but yar the talk end on the something.Even Missiles would no be able to survive the G-force.
