ULFA admits it is using China as a base
Thu, Nov 19 01:30 PM

Guwahati, Nov 19 (IANS) The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has set up bases in China and other foreign countries with the help of money extorted in the state, two senior ULFA leaders have told police interrogators.

This is the first time the ULFA, which is fighting to secede the oil-rich Assam from India, has accepted setting up bases in China.

ULFA 'foreign secretary' Sasha Choudhury and 'finance secretary' Chitraban Hazarika, now in police remand since Nov 6, told interrogations that apart from Bangladesh they have bases in China and other foreign countries.

'Crores of rupees have been extorted from (Assam) and transferred to (ULFA) leaders in Bangladesh, China and other countries where they have established hideouts,' the Special Operations Unit (SOU) of Assam Police quoted the two leaders as confessing.

The interrogation report was submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Guwahati Tuesday, a copy of which is available with IANS.

'Several foreign agencies and NGOs provided logistic assistance to the ULFA leaders in foreign countries. They are trying to muster support from China, Bangladesh and other foreign countries for ULFA,' the interrogation report quoted the arrested men as saying.

According to officials, the two ULFA leaders were arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) near Gokul Nagar in Tripura Nov 5 while trying to sneak into India. The duo, who were based in Dhaka, denied this version.

There have been reports in a section of the media that the two were arrested in Bangladesh and handed them over to the Indian authorities Nov 2.

The two men also revealed that ULFA was planning to procure a huge consignment of arms and explosives from Pakistan and China for 'use against the government of India,' the interrogation report said.

The ULFA is widely known to enjoy close ties with the Pakistani intelligence. It is also known to have bases in Bangladesh where its top leaders have lived for a long time.

There we go again... Why do you have to drag Afghanistan into this discussion and that too with nothing being proved.

Yeah and up there everything was PROVED against Pakistan and ISI.

Whatever India says is a fact and a well known solid evidence and whatever Pakistan says about what is happening in Afghanistan are Just mere allegations and Baseless accusations.

Indian Media news are incomplete unless they Bring in Pakistani and ISI name in the allegation. When Pakistani flags were hoisted in India by some rebels Indian media in a Knee jerk reaction Labeled it as Master piece of Pakistani ISI. In reality the rebels were just trying to piss off the Govt.

:smitten:nice and good news,if it's true.

strongly suggest 3rd bro. arm tibetan rioters in china.

Nothing unexpected in the article.

It is a known fact where the Reds in India are getting support & finance from. The entire thing came to the fore whence the Commies withdrew support from the last Govt over the 123 Nuke deal.

Ever since there has been a spurt in these activities & support.

ULFA trying to shift base to China: GogoiSun, Nov 22 10:00 PM

New Delhi, Nov.20 (PTI) Hours after ULFA militants triggered the latest blasts in Assam, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the banned north-east terror outfit is trying to shift base to China.

"I don't know whether ULFA has support from Chinese authorities but they are undoubtedly trying to shift their base to China," Gogoi told NDTV. A question on reports of ULFA shifting base was also fielded by Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor. "We have been speaking to all our friendly neighbouring countries about the importance of ensuring that their territory is not used against India and certainly by the countries you have mentioned," he said.

Tharoor was asked by mediapersons about reports that the ULFA is moving bases from Myanmar and Bangladesh to China. "All countries, we believe, understand the importance of cooperating with India in that regard.

I don''t have any further information beyond that but as a general proposition we do make it sure that our neighbours do not allow their territory to be misused in any way against our interests, just as we will not allow our territory to be used against them," he said. The Assam police meanwhile dismissed ULFA''s claim that it was not responsible for the twin blasts in Nalbari district, asserting that the outfit was behind the latest explosions.

"Preliminary investigations have showed that the ULFA is behind the blasts", Inspector General of Police (IGP-Law and Order) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta told newsmen after visiting the blast sites here.

To paraphrase the most sought after Obama Administration employee, Ms. Fair, "They are upto something as they should be". What goes around comes around. India miscalculated the fact that it has probably 10 times larger territory that is under the strong influence of the outlaws.

In english, shifting means going from one place to another place with bag and baggage. Shifting can also be FROM BD TO CHINA.

They had initial camps in Myanmaar and the Bhutan also apart from BD, but were closed down by the respective Govts of Bhutan and Myanmaar under India's diplomatic pressure. Now that BD govt is also cooperating with India, they are on look out for possible alternate hide outs. This does not mean that CPC will allow them to shift to china.

May be they should try some other neighbourhood country, who will be more then happy to oblige (at least part of its citizens will, if not the Govt).

In English a base for any organisation fighting any insurgency, is a proper one with good infrastructure, training facilities and all other required weaponry for that, NOT Just picking up your bag and travel to another place.

And if they had camps in Myanmar then why India is supporting Maynmar against Bangladesh
