Yes there are theories about them originating in Punjab, but I am not so inclined to believe they were native to only Punjab. When I see the faces of some Romas who do not have much European genes, they look more like Rajasthanis to me than Punjabi. I agree the Roma are not exclusively native to Punjab, but going by the report the diaspora's common point of origin in Europe is mainly Punjab. Their purpose for migrating was not primarily for finding work, but because they had a vagabound attitude toward life.
