FROM THE SATURDAY, May 3, 2014 WASHINGTON POST, a partial quote:

"In one sign that the Kremlin may still retain sway over the actions of allies in eastern Ukraine, a group of seven international observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe were released by separatists in Slovyansk on Saturday after being held hostage for more than a week, Russian envoy Vladimir Lukin told the RIA Novosti newswire agency.

The release was a “voluntary humanitarian act,” he said. It came after Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Lukin to the region on Thursday to push for their release. Five Ukrainian military officers held captive alongside the observers were also freed."

First Russia sent in key Spetznatz forces who created groups of naredowell folks into Spetznatz led para military group(s). These Russian military led groups then disarmed elements of the Ukrainian military in Crimea. The weaponry taken from regular Ukrainian military they was used to increase and enrich the weapons available to the Spetznatz boys to give to their just recruited insurrectionists.

Of course Russian media reported that the Russian Spetznatz first disarmed the Ukrainian national Army, navy, and Air Forces in Crimea, then the Russian Press "claimed" the weaponry was "returned" to the people. "The people" were the Spetznatz raised and then so-armed para-military.

Now that we know Mr. Putin respects use of force by Ukraine to defend it's territory and all it's multi-ethnic peoples, it would be well if Putin told his underlings inside Ukraine to drop their purported May 11 fake referendum and waited for the actual Ukrainian National vote and referendum which the ex-President of Ukraine cowardly ran away from doing on May 25 as he said he would do when HE was included in a broad based interim Ukrainian national leadership team which immediately set up the to be held 25 May national vote.

IF Mr. Putin pulls down the May 11 fraudulent attempt at a pro-Russia rigged vote, then Mr. Putin will be seen worldwide as having regained his composure over what started out as an overly aggressive economic competition to see if Russian could gain more "sway" over all of Ukraine by becoming it's major banker vs. the European Union.

There is plenty of free world style free enterprise room for Russian banks and if they so choose the Duma and government of Russia to become the dominant financier of a big chunk of the ill afforded by one and all, including Russia, perhaps $20 billion plus refinancing needs of all of Ukraine. Having used force has been a tragic mistake by Mr. Putin, but he, Putin, can recovery by sharing creditor status with the West for a blended, neutral outcome geopolitically in, of, and by all of the nation of Ukraine.

In the midst of all this I might add that the female former Chief of RIA (the Russian Information Agency) has succeeded Andrew McChesney as the Managing Editor of THE MOSCOW TIMES, which heretofore was a mix in my years of reading it of the WALL STREET JOURNAL and the WASHINGTON POST in objectivity and content. I only hope experience with the RIA does not lead to loss of editorial and news coverage objectivity and associated past history of aggressive reformist democratic style of reporting.

I wonder what changed Putins mind so far. Ukrainian army just cleans the city from terrorists scum and finally our men are rescued.
