Syria was supposed to become a bridge for Europe to saffocte Russians. A pipeline was planned from Qatar and Syraq all the way to Europe throughout Turkey. If Russia still posseses the energy leverage, it is thanks to resisting against NATO created/supported terrorists in Syraq.
