WASHINGTON — Ukrainian state-run defense firm Ukroboronprom has announced a successful test of the new Neptun cruise missile. The anti-ship missile struck a maritime target 100 kilometers away from its launch point in the south of the Odesa region on Aug. 17.

Locally developed by the Kyiv-based state design bureau Luch, the Neptun is a subsonic anti-ship cruise missile with a reported maximum range between 280 and 300 kilometers. Ground- and air-launched variants that could be used to strike targets as far away as Moscow are reportedly in development.

Following the test, Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov said: “Ukrainian cruise missiles are capable of providing reliable defense of the Black Sea and Azov coast, affecting enemy vessels at distances up to 300 kilometers, if necessary, even in the ports they are based.”

Turchynov added that Neptun variants could be used to target military infrastructure, specifically “strategic bridges and ferry crossings in case of their use by the enemy for aggression against [Ukraine].”

According to Ukrainian defense expert Serhiy Sguretz, the missile is equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead and flies a normal cruise missile trajectory at altitudes between 10 and 30 meters. Some reporting suggests the missile uses an inertial navigation system for guidance, but official guidance system information has not be published.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies' Missile Defense Project notes the missile is visibly similar to the Russian Kh-35.

. .
Be happy it cannot hit moscow otherwise the whole ukraine will be a radio active waste land.

Just 130km short for Moscow...
And your last statement is also false....Since according to Ukraine... They have the Grom 2... a 500 km range ballistic missile...

:o:o_O
There is no other statement by him
Carrying a nuclear strike with a nuclear tipped missile or even with a simple conventional missile means inviting a death.Russia is no joke even US wont do that mistake, ukraine stand no chance.Ukraine even wont be able to get a deterrence against russia.

Ukraine is not known as a nuclear weapons state while Russia is the number 1 when it comes to nukes...it has not only the largest stockpiles but it has some big babies like Tsar Bomba with 50 mega tonne of the yield so having a capability to reach Moscow means nothing.... Except Russia is the supplier of the most advanced missile defence system S-400 and it S-500 in underdevelopment which is 4 times more advanced than S-400.

Look at this missile it is somewhat unique?
Isn't it guess what

Ukraine and Russia may politically despise each other, but they will never kill each other over US. Both are countries that have common roots and share that historic bond.

India and pakistan also are politically despise with each other and have common roots and share historic bond so that means we wont have a war and we will never kill each other?Your logic is flawed

Most likely an exaggeration by Washington in the title.. I do not think that Ukrainians have said that..
I don't think Ukrain is that stupid. It will never make a mistake of attacking mainland Russia but it will keep fighting Russia backed rebels in Crimea and that too under the pressure from the West since Crimea was never a Ukrainian territory. It was given to it by Khrochev in 1950's when it was under USSR. However, the West especially USA wants to use Ukraine against Russia to contain it. So any fall out will be on Ukraine but Putin is not stupid and he knows exactly who is pulling strings and he knows how to contain them.

I think Pakistan and India example is not valid here. Ukrainians and Russians have no wish to fight each other. However, Ukraine has a puppet govt and it is in fact a west controlled mafia like the one we had in Pakistan just before the GE2018.

No you did not understand what he is saying. He said they cannot have a war and kill each other because they share history and blood.Political tensions happen for several other reasons does not matter the government is puppet or not.For example in pakistan we have a kashmir and terrorism issue in balochistan with india and that does not mean our common culture and history will prevent a war.
